I turned off mid way through the first caller (Brian the Miller) . He had a good 10 minutes at it last night and started to go thru every manager Rotherham have ever had tonight. He’s on a good or 4 times a week. Now Radio Sheffield can say - “you need to call in”, but they don’t seem to cut down his time - ever. To me it seems like. “Brilliant, Brian’s here, that’s 10 -15 minutes done.” If they are that desperate for callers that they have to blame me for NOT being on live radio, then their show is either boring (my discredited feedback) or unsustainable.
Very surprised by Rob Staton's replies to be honest. I get that they can only give airtime to people who call, but he shouldn't have replied like that to you.
I don't think he's saying you can't have an opinion but it's a phone in show. They can only put on people who phone in. I mean, they could read out an email if you send one in but the whole point of the show is to discuss things, to generate conversation. I can see both sides. It is boring hearing the same people moan every time they lose and claim to be world beaters when they scrape a win against Accrington or whoever. But equally, if there are no reds fans ringing in who are they supposed to put on air? It would be interesting to see how many callers they have for each show and how they're vetted to see who gets broadcast. If there's 50 callers and it's the same 5 every time then that's an issue. If there's only those 5 calling then that's also an issue but of a different type.
I think Rob's point is a fair one. It's a call-in show, the content is dictated by those who call in, if you want to change that content then it's for the audience to step up. Perhaps they don't have enough callers to sustain the show without the regulars, in which case their choice is let them speak or have 45 minutes of dead air. Bit daft to suggest that you rattled him in any way.
Don’t believe this only 10 callers argument, doesn’t everyone know Wendy’s are massive so per pigs head auto at least 10,000 will listen
