No he was aiming for Mahoney who was coming in at the far post (off shot on the highlights) it was a misdirected cross.
Wasn’t Smith the Walsall manager when we ended their Wembley dreams a couple of years ago? If he was he might still be smarting about that.
Yes I’ve just looked him up! They were fourth from top and he had just signed a new contract when he jumped ship for Brentford. It was that same season but I had forgotten that he didn’t stay to the end
Don't spoil it by suggesting the first goal was a fluke. There was nobody anywhere close to being available in the box so I'd like to think he meant it as a shot to nothing.
After we scored we chased them so much that they gave the ball away, passed into touch and relied on longer passes trying to get in behind. Woods was quality for them, but did he make a killer pass? No, because he was playing so deep he was like a sweeper. Smith wants to count himself lucky it wasn't a heavier loss.
Liked the look of Woods - dictated play for them . Think he came from Shrewsbury - lower league dross etc.
I sit East Stand Lower near the end and it was definitely a cross. Mahoney was trying to make a run to the far post in front of us - if I remember rightly, Moore actually gestures for him to make a run before he attempts the cross. It doesn't matter a jot what it was - it's about time we had some luck.
Barring the last sentence, he's spot on really. They were definitely in control until we scored. We'll never know whether Kieffer went for goal or not, but there was an aire of good fortune about the goal. It's about time too, we've been down on our luck all season. But after that, we bossed the game. Could have been 2 up before half time and 4 up by the end, and they could have had no complaints. Our centre halves were comfortable, and Walton made one token dive for the cameras early in the 2nd half.
Nowt wrong with signing lower league players, most teams do it. It's when you rely almost totally on them that you're taking a big risk.
