44 days without a head coach, the interim coach failed and the search scoured the whole of Europe with the appointment (yet to be confirmed) of Gerhard Struber. The club had a pretty decent (albeit unknown coach 18 months ago) and dispensed with his services (reason yet to be confirmed). The reason for the lack of success on the pitch not being the head coach's fault but the players he had to work with in this league. This was reinforced with the lack of success of Adam Murray (DS 0.5pts per game AM 0.55pts) and further showed that the fault lay in the recruitment (sales department). Struber comes in with no experience in English football (so did DS), but has had success at his previous club. Why do the owners think he can work wonders when Daniel couldn't? The severance fee equates to broadly 2 players at £10k a week (over a year) if press reports are to be believed. Imagine how much better the team could have been with a bit of experience along with the youth. I do hope Gerhard can achieve something Daniel and Adam could not, but the fundamental issue does not seem to be the manager, sorry head coach.
I have no idea if this guy will be a success and I'm not really sure how I feel about the appointment overall. I know that six weeks without someone in charge is ridiculous. However, were you this vocal about Stendel coming in with 34 games experience and a relegation on his CV? For every Morais, there's a Wagner/Farke. Time will tell I guess.
Stendel came in a League lower, and let's face it after Morais we would have accepted the winner of I'm a Celebrity as gaffer. Having proved himself in L1, he struggled in the Champ. And he wasn't allowed to mention the reason, even though he clearly identified it (along with 12,000 fools). I wish the new man every success but I don't have an issue with those doubting the wisdom of the appointment. Morais MkII ? (and an expensive one at that).
Salzburg are a bigger club than Barnsley, so he'd definitely got some experience which is at a meaningful level as Assistant manager there. He has managed Wolfsberger against Roma in the European Cup this year as well - hardly not meaningful either.
