One thing for sure, the club was in a far worse position in 2015 when they brought Hammill in than it is now........
Don’t understand why people are still blaming the club and their policy for not resigning Hammill. It’s been claimed many times that he was offered a contract but he turned it down(no evidence for this), but also Stendel went to his house and discussed and then no contract was offered, this says to me that Stendel decided against signing him not the club. He was great for us last time we were in this league no doubt, but we have moved on, instead of looking back why not try suggesting new players. I also don’t agree with a under 25, resale only policy when having ambitions of promotion and like others on here think we need someone in middle of park like a Sheridan to steady the team.
What’s the obsession with Adam hanmill. I agree he was a great servant to the club and still has the quality to help in league one but surely after every bad result we can’t go back to this, I can’t remember anyone mentioning him after the Rochdale or Peterborough wins. Don’t get me wrong I do believe we need a bit of experience, maybe a ball winning defensive midfielder or a right back but how on earth would Hammil have settled the back 4 after the penalty. Cavare needs to be replaced. I think I’d be on edge playing at the side of him, and then especially after he makes the mistakes he made Tuesday. Hopefully jan we see a couple of loans come in to push the squad on. A squad which I still believe is more than capable of getting us promotion. Hopefully the lads will have learned from the Sunderland loss and use it to push us through this difficult run of fixtures.
Absolutely spot on. Whatever you do in life you learn from those who have been there and done it. If for anything you use a load of clones of similar age they have nobody to learn off to better themselves quicker. It's like Alan Hansen getting bantered for his you win nothing with kids comment when despite all the youth Man United always had a couple of older heads to help along the class of 93.
I know its still early, but I believe the Portsmouth game could well be the make or break game that goes on to define our season. If we lose heavily or struggle to compete against what seems to be the most organised solid consistent team in the league, I wonder that will do mentally for our players. Will they tank and roll over like last season, or have they got resilience in them to bounce back and be more determined. The jury is still out for me. If we can win, and burst the Portsmouth bubble, that should boost our belief, from fans and players alike and could be the perfect spring board to start the long run in. I also wonder if someone like Moore may well push for a move if he thinks automatic promotion isn't on the cards. I think we desperately need a captain. We're so timid and nice as a team. An admirable trait, but when everyone else cheats and bullies, meekness isn't the best response. It's still a very young team so they may grow and develop their characters more, but I would hope by early mid 20's, your character and personality are pretty developed already.
Hammill was good for half a season in league one 3 seasons ago. Really don't understand why folk think he's the answer to anything.
It’s ridiculous that we’ve now got the best header of the ball upfront for us in ages but have poor crossers of the ball (a lot of times, the balls get blocked as well) - we have to have a wide player who can put it on Kieffer head - it’s simple really! Hammill was our best crosser by a mile & we’ve messed up
It makes perfect sense to have an experienced pro out there. I've been saying it for the last two years. A big reason why we turned things around in our last promotion was getting Kevin Long & Adam Hammill. We need someone who is interested in moving into coaching youth players in a few years, but has a couple of years in the tank still in my opinion. That is not to say that the wider policy isn't a good idea.
B.B.S. THREADS av bin saying this week in week art, lets hope the powers that be will RECTIFY the situation in JANUARY. [ fingers crossed ]. C.O.Y.R. c u all satdi ice cream and saaafend fish and chips.
Yep, 2 and half years ago since Hamill popped in the beauty at Wembley. There are no guarantees he could still do it at this level.
Deciding to get rid of Hammill and McCarthy really big mistakes for me said it at the start of the season still stand by it and I’ll be saying it come end of the season. I’d swap Hammill for any wide attacking player currently at the club and McCarthy would of provided a decent back up to Cavare who’s form has dropped significantly over the past month and doesn’t deserve to start the next game chuck Jordan Williams in or go with Brown.
I’d go along with most of that. Cavare’s big problem is a lack of competition. Not sure about McCarthy being the one to have provided it though. Jordan Williams seemed okay what little I’ve seen of him, but he never seems to get near the first team. If Stendel thinks he’s not up to it then that’s another issue to resolve in January
Stevie Mallan has scored 9 in 21 games this season. Four out of 13 of those were in the same league in a team with 11 more points than St Mirren. Gives a decent indication of that level.
So he has had one good game in Scotland and now we need him back? A few weeks ago he wasn't even starting for them. If he is not good enough to get a game for a team in bottom 2 of the the SPL, then he is not good enough to get into our side. Yes he has been a fantastic servant to this club over years but the fact is that he is just not good enough anymore for this level. He offered next to nothing last season for us albeit in the higher league. He was then let go by us, no other club in England has taken him and he has ended up in bottom 2 of SPL. Clearly that shows that he is not the answer to all our issues. Our main issue at the moment is the lack of a ball winning midfielder as Dougall is injured and the terrible form of Cavare at the moment. Those are the issues that need addressing at the moment not signing back Hammill
Cavaré is a real enigma. You can't help but like him for his barnstorming runs through defences but then you have to howl at him when he gives it away cheaply at both ends of the field. At our end that is proving costly as goals are coming from his errors. There is a player in there somewhere but it's taking a while for him to show it consistently. It's funny though that other fans seem to rate him. Reading other club's forums after we have played them and FB groups such as the one called Football League One he's a popular guy. He is often picked out as one of our best players and one poster recently put him and Potts in the League One Team of the Season so far. Maybe we are being over-critical of the lad?
