The only possible answer to our striker woes is for our current strikers to improve, and to be fair they have shown signs in the last three games. My only point about Halme is that I'd rather have him have some decent cameos, than someone that is crap and expensive from the free agents list. If the new coach sees a big striker as needed in his plans, i.e. someone that would be in the starting 11 every week, then it becomes a different story in Jan, when they should buy someone.
I don't think they're the main problem. The final ball has been lacking all season long. In the first few games in particular (Luton definitely sticks out), we were limited to pot shots from distance because the support to the strikers was non existent. Woodrow dropping too deep didn't help, Chaplin's link up play has gone off a cliff, and Schmidt (whilst he is a good finisher) often goes missing. I still think all we're missing, is that bit more ruthlessness in midfield. I'm hoping Kane, James and Brittain are the answer. I'd like us to find a striker capable of holding the ball up, taking the pressure off our defence when we're defending a lead. If we can stop the ball constantly coming back, we'll start seeing out more games. I'm not convinced anyone from the free agent market is capable of that (within our budget at least).
There's a pub at Blennerville on the outskirts of Tralee called Skelper Quayne's. Never been in but I have visions of it being run by some grizzled ex sea captain in the mould of John Wayne or Humphrey Bogart.
