I'll be voting Labour but I would have been very uncomfortable had we seen a similar advert supporting Corbyn or a local Labour candidate. How can a newspaper claim to be independent and hope to offer impartial copy when they're part funded by a political party? The politician on the cover is irrelevant to me, it's that they've taken the money from anyone and sold their credibility that means they're no longer credible in my view.

A full wrap round like that one? Then yes. No party should be allowed to do this

    Absolutely!

We moved to Barnsley when I was 13 in the mid '60s. It was a cultural shock and I remember there were 2 NCB recruiting shops, a thriving bustling outdoor market , a crap;) (but well supported) football team and yes, a community spirit and a bit of irreverance, pride and rebelliousness, not forgetting the dry humour of people in the town. The mayor's parade was a big event too with NCB float always looking pretty spectacular. The pubs and WMCs were full of humour and it was like a lively frontier town on Friday/Saturday nights.
Most of the people who worked in mining may not have been financially rich but, generous in spirit (in spite of the reputation that Yorkshire folk are tight). The community spirit and pride in the town that existed was palpable and, as 'outsiders', we quickly realised Barnsley was special and not just any old industrial town in the North.
The dry humour still exists and I have seen it in pockets at Oakwell ,on my, now rare, visits and on this BB but, understandably, that optimism and confidence has been replaced by cynicism and a lot of negativity especially the younger generation post Thatcher that never saw the town in it's heyday.
A clear case of 'you don't know what you've got 'til its gone'

My feelings almost exactly, To put a photo of someone who’s is right-wing rubs it in even further. I used to buy it for the obvious reasons it’s a local paper for local people ( Royston Vasey pun intended) I will still read it occasionally as my Dad sometimes buys it, although he may stop buying it now

The Chron ran a Tory advert two years ago - tried to say it was a “paid advert” - I used to buy the paper every week but haven’t since the local paper clearly supported/appeared to support them - I didn’t think it could sink any lower but YES IT HAS!
It should be impartial so I’d be appalled if it had been Labour doing this - anyone who thinks this is ok doesn’t believe In democracy
