I think if they stay up, with a few good young signings, they can be top 8 no problem (As daft as that sounds right now!). Linked with players like Botman, Lingard, even Ndombele... Definitely a lot of potential for them if they get things right
I agree look at citys early signings people like joleon lescott paying well over the odds for him Newcastle need a few seasons to build they wwee never going to take over and sign mbappe, griezmann or salah.
That is mad, but then again he’s definitely a more consistent player then Andy Carol and Liverpool paid £36 million for him back in 2011 and then West Ham spaffed a further £15 million on him. Now that is the definition of insanity.
Talk sport say if Wood does go, Burnley interested in Kieffer Moore... Few clubs wanting Holgate on loan too, some from the Prem, some from Germany... Some ex-reds in the shop window this January ey
Makes sense. They don’t have a target man but have plenty of attacking players to feed off a target man & with the quality delivery Trippier & Ritchie give you it’s a no-brainer. He probably won’t be needed in 18 months time but I doubt they care. It strengthens them & weakens a rival. When City got the money they took Everton & Villa’s best players & leapfrogged them. They then took Arsenal’s best players & leapfrogged them. It’s baby steps. It won’t take a lot for Newcastle to become a solid mid table team next season if they stay up this season.
We just need another wonderkid to come through the academy to sell to Everton... and then make lots of profit when he goes on to join Newcastle
When they were linked to Howe with Mike Ashley in charge they hated the idea. When the rich new owners brought him in they thought it was a great appointment. Can you imagine the stick Mike Ashley would have got signing a 30 year old off struggling Burnley?
The fee is too high for sure but he is a reliable enough BPL striker who has scored goals on a fairly consistent basis for Burnley so should bag a few for Newcastle to help them stay up. It also massively impacts a direct relegation rival so its a fairly smart move tbh.
Yeah players like Lescott, Bridge, Bellamy and Barry got Man City on a stable enough footing to then attract the real big names. I think Newcastle are taking the right approach rather than mercenaries like Robinho who was a big mistake for Man City.
Burnley put a 20m release clause in his contract thinking no one would been be daft enough to pay that
Came on loan from West Brom as a raw 18 year old in 2010. Sent back early after no goals in eight or nine games and after having suffered the humiliation of being substituted in a home game (I was there) after only 20 minutes.
