For me only Ferdinand and Ashley Cole would be in my starting XI today...maybe Seaman.

Ah, sorry. I've just checked. He scored 1 goal in 3 World Cups.

If the criteria is 2002-2010 and the current crop, I’m astounded so many are selecting David Seaman.

He was way, way past his reliable best in 2002. If we were including 96-2000, absolutely. I appreciate that unbelievable save from Paul Peschisolido was in 03, but that was well against the norm. He’d been conceding comparatively poor goals for a couple of years prior and his body was starting to fail him as well.

If we are selecting a team from 2002-10 and the current batch:

    Pickford (just, over James)

    Stones. Ferdinand. Terry

    Walker. Cole

    Gerrard Scholes Lampard

    Kane Rooney

    Subs
    James
    G Neville
    Campbell
    Bellingham
    Beckham
    Saka
    Sterling
    Owen
    Crouch

Anyone choosing Gerrard over Jude Bellingham shouldn't be allowed to watch football ever again. I'm not even convinced they should be allowed to own eyes.

And as for someone having Joe Hart in the squad - Jesus fooking Christ.

Jude Bellingham is going to be the star man at the next tournament. What a prospect he is.

Yeah so did I. Surprised me to be honest - 7 in 21 in major tournaments. Probably a bit disappointing for his ability, but it was quite a defensive team.

I think if you ask the question in two to three years Bellingham walks into most people’s teams but at the moment he has 24 caps, 9 of those as a sub, and one goal.

He made three sub cameos at the euros - but the only tournament he had a major impact on was the World Cup where England went out meekly at the quarter final stage.

Gerrard, as did Lampard and Scholes, failed for England in terms of tournament success. So has Bellingham so far.

He hasn’t done enough - yet - to get in the combined eleven from the two given eras.

    Pickford
    Walker Rio Terry Cole
    Scholes Hargreaves
    Saka Gerrard Foden
    Rooney

Bench - James, G. Neville, Stones, Campbell, Shaw, Carrick, Lampard, Beckham, Rice, Rashford, Owen

I think that teams got everything & is very well balanced. No one playing in positions they didn’t play in regularly at club level. If Bellingham keeps going as he is then he’d take the number 10 spot & Gerrard takes one of the two deeper midfield spots.

I would’ve loved to have seen Gerrard playing off Rooney like he did off Torres for a couple of years before Torres’ hamstrings went. Unfortunately Sven & Capello were obsessed with playing 4-4-2.

Hargreaves over Rice is probably an unpopular one but I think he was far better on the ball than Rice & was outstanding for Bayern, England & Man Utd before injuries got to him.

Behave. Gerrard was one of the best players on the planet for over a decade. Regularly made the best 11 in the world in these FIFA & UEFA awards. Bellingham’s only just getting started. He needs to be doing what he’s doing now until the end of this decade to be in that conversation.

In International football? He didnt win any representative awards because he was meh.

You saw Bellingham last night, right? Gerrard never ran a game like that for England. On a different planet.

It was a post about picking the best side from the two eras. If we’re just saying who’s done best in international football then we might as well not bother & just post the Euro 2020 side as they reached a final.

Bellingham didn’t run the game last night anymore than say Phil Foden. He played really well & looks like he’ll be a world beater.

Gerrard was comfortably our best player at Euro 2012. Got made the captain beforehand & finally had a holding midfielder alongside him so he didn’t have to play the defensive midfield role. A case of what might have been for me if he didn’t spend his peak years shielding the back 4 for England.

Just because we didn’t win anything doesn’t mean everyone from that era was crap.

Sorry, but you either didn't watch it or there's no point debating with you as you're just being deliberately daft.

You’ve just stated Gerrard never ran a game for England & are then calling someone else daft. I think you’re right. No point debating.

Yes, you're right, a few diagonal passes, a couple of interceptions and an assist that squirmed through the goalies hands that's the landmark performance you've picked out from over 100 caps has well and truly put me back in my box.
