I don't know if he's leaving or not. What I would say is that Jacob has played excellently for the club for the past 2 season's. We went to the away game at Scunthorpe in League one, we were 2 nil down and playing passing football going nowhere. He brought Jacob on and suddenly we were more positive and could have won it at the end. Having Jacob in the team made us more positive and stretched the play. He has created so many goals too. If Jacob decides to leave and Cauley and Alex too, then they go with my best wishes and thanks for their efforts over the last 2 season's. Don't understand the criticism and negativity.
Tell that to Odejayi! I think Brown is not as good as many believe him to be. He does have the potential to improve still (as you are implying), so I'm in two minds about him. At the moment I'd say he's no great loss but if he does improve for any new club that he goes to then obviously it'll be a hindsight 'shouldnt have sold' argument. Hope this clarifies my clear thinking on the issue.
I like him as either right winger or right wing back, but he wins a lot of headers and is good at the pressing side of the game too . So can see why he gets played in attack too . Good player and gives us options when he’s in team to switch systems
........ Wins a lot of headers ??? As a player that has been playing as a striker - when was the last time you saw him score a header? In fact - when was the last time you saw him actually head the ball towards goal ? All these stats will be known and mulled over by James Cryne.
Brown is a good player with a good, maybe great future. Ill be sorry to see him go, but that’s the story of being a Barnsley fan. Wonder what it’s like to support a buying club, rather than a selling one?
If your playing on the wing in your natural position and one of the best assist rates in the division people will forgive your finishing. I think he will be gone before the window ends from what I heard.
I think the only reason struber played him upfront for the 2nd half of last season is because he is one of the only forward player we have that can win a header, woodrow, chaplin, schmidt etc all have there own qualities but wont win any headers, for me jacob brown is most effective out wide.
This fixture was never gonna be high on the priority list . The inclusion of Victor up front in the starting line up and leaving Browny on the bench was a bit surprising but I wouldn't read too much into it just yet. How can Struber look at Frieser and Victor against a championship side unless he sees them in a competitive situation? He knows how J Brown,A Halme and Schmidt play and so his team set up makes more sense. The overall performance was sufficient for the match was ok. On the down side Victor did not use his strength much to out muscle the centre half and I don't this has the pace to do so either. Frieser did ok but should have scored from the guilt edge oportunity he was given late on.
I think you will find he has gone already. The Club will probably announce tomorrow. Stoke City is favourite.
The criticism of Brown about his finishing is fair because it needs a lot of work but let’s be honest, if it was any good he wouldn’t be playing for us. Players at our level will always have some flaws. If you only judge forwards by a narrow view of how many goals they score then he won’t look that great. But there’s a lot more to him and what he’s asked to do than just putting the ball in the net. What he does give you is athleticism, pace and power which are key requirements for the way Struber likes to play. He’s also chipped in with a lot of assists, many of which have come from his pressing and athleticism to get us in a position where we can score or create. I think it’d be a big loss if we lose him. We will at some point because that’s the inevitability of our situation and the way the football food chain works. I’d like one more season from him to really see what he and we can do.
I like Brown and has good potential and is an effective wide man. Issue is has mentioned before we dont play currently with wingers so he is playing up front which is not the best place for him due to his lack of quality with his finishing. If selling brown allows us to buy Whiteman and a true Moore type replacement then I would be all for it personally, providing that we also don't sell anyone else.
As ever it all depends on the fee and the replacement brought in. It's inevitable we will sell a couple but if quality is brought in then we can't complain.
Does anyone think when it drops to Brown in the box "oh great" or "oh **** wish it was Chaplin or Woodrow"?
