Re: My mum's aunty lived in Grimey. For anyone who wants to read more about Grimethorpe, its past and how it has changed over time. https://www.discoveringbritain.org/.../walk booklets/Grimethorpe - walk booklet.pdf
Re: Stand by for heresy The elephant in the room - someone finally said it - totally agree - sickly and very patronising.
Re: Stand by for heresy It's a decent film and it does chronicle an issue or time period close to my heart. Some great actors in it too. But the accents are abysmal and I've always struggled to get past that. The Coco the Scab scene is top notch though, one of my favourite from any film.
"Would you like to come in for a coffee?" "Yes, but I don't like coffee." "I haven't got any coffee."
No it was Dr Crann's House - at the top of Dr Crann's Hill. Bl**dy Hill. Fell off my bike on that bu**er (I was giving someone a backie) and ended up in Barnsley general! Great film. The Coco the Scab scene had me in floods.
Re: My mum's aunty lived in Grimey. I spent 26 years of my life in that 2nd photo of the last 4 17 ladywood road. Crazy.
Re: My mum's aunty lived in Grimey. The Daily Mail article a couple of years after the film that stated that the local fish and chip shop had even had to close due to the deprivation in the village! Missing the pont it was never a chippy, it was a hardware shop I recall that had closed because of the strike, and the film makers used it.
Re: My mum's aunty lived in Grimey. That's the one with Ewan McGregor and the really bad accent isn't it? For some reason Scots are really bad at Yorkshire accents, Robert Carlyle's in The Full Monty was **** as well.
Just bought tickets for the present Mrs East Grinstead Tyke and myself. Went to school in Grimethorpe in the 70s - Milefield Middle and then Willowgarth - so Brassed Off is a great trip down memory lane.
