I remember Larry May popping one in at the Kop end , he had two or three goes before finally heading it in , I am not sure but I seem to think it was against Cardiff but I could be wrong ,but the one thing that does stick out that it was pure farce , absolute slapstick ! priceless
Only match home and away I missed that season. I was having a trial at a club I'll not mention.........
The Paul Stancliffe og is my all time favourite. I mean as an ex blunt, it helped. But seeing Rimmer round the keeper, thinking he'd scored, realising he'd missed, then Stancliffe head in hands.... priceless. Was an unbelievable performance that day, even with a concussed Rammell.
I was thinking of Chris Brass' og. I think that it may have been his debut and he broke his nose in the process. It's the sort of thing which is hilarious now, but wasn't funny at the time, unless you didn't support Bury. I have several favourites from Allan Hopper, the best being a cracker from outside the penalty area into the top corner against Reading (I think) at Oakwell. i think that Hopper scored at least six own goals that season, including two in one game (I think - Bristol City away??). In terms of calamity players, Craig Ireland moved from us to Peterborough United, where the managed to 1) score an own goal; 2) give away a penalty and 3) get sent off .... all in the one game. That's a seriously bad day at the office.
