Good luck to him. Always gave his best and suffered a terrible injury. Hope he makes a career in the game.
Without been harsh he's done well to hang on here for so long to be honest. Probably more to do with the fact it's a position we have continuously failed to fill in multiple transfer windows so far. Decent lower league player, we might pick him back up in league 2.
The two weakest positions in the squad are left back and center midfield and seemingly in the first four days of the window we've first given up the chance to reinforce center midfield for nothing and now look like weakening the left back position even further. Let's just hope it's because a quality left back and center midfielder are about to be signed but I won't hold my breath. Getting ready for a lengthy spell in L1
That's my hope. People leaving freeing up wages for quality replacements. Centre Mid for me is our weakest area, as I think that's where we get over run. Needs a real leader, a physical presence and hopefully a bit of pace.. With the right service to our front line, they will score goals. I would certainly still bring another strong forward in but the forward line isn't getting any service ATM so can't solely take the blame. This window relies on getting right the most important midfield capture in recent times IMO. A loan of a premier league academy player won't be enough. Someone with real first team games under their belt but not a journeyman looking for a last pay day. This is where the spreadsheet needs to have 2 models. 1 being the young hungry player who we can develop and hopefully unearth a few gems. Second one needs to be for core requirements to build your talent around. Think of a Redders in his prime running the midfield with the others learning and taking the lead. Same in defence, and our forward line. Those core players are now what we don't have. I'd say Mowatt leaving was the last of those and the club made the mistake of thinking Benson (although he should become a core player through hard work) was at that level from the word go. Experience which always gets quoted doesn't technically have to come with age as even a 23/24 yr old could have a lot of first team championship level experience. That is the player we need, although I'm not averse to signing a 28/29 year old if they fit the bill and most importantly won't smash the entire wage budget.
I'll judge the transfer window at the end of it, and more accurately when we see what effect is translated onto the pitch. But I'm a little more worried than I was going into this window. I thought the obvious actions to take that were low cost were to recall Kane to try and bolster the squad with what we already own, and retain players that won't be on high wages but could do a job at league 1 level. Ben Williams falls into that category for me and a lengthy run of games may well be the thing that starts to see a player emerge that matches the effort. Very early days and although I don't want it to happen, I think it's imperative we generate some cash and offload our higher earners. Obviously that cash should not be used for further paying down of the 80% ownerships payments for the club.
Having a peep around their twitter feed, it seems CTFC have released Dan Crowley, who was once upon a time loaned to us under the guise of the next Wilshire / Pires? Looked a baller, but was nobbut a little lad when he was with us.
