He's a very divisive character is Ben Williams. Defensively I think he's a very good full back. I'm not sure how he'd operate as a wing back, which might make his chances limited when he is fit. The thing I like about him is that, he seems to suss players out as a game goes on. He struggles early on, but by the 2nd half, he grows into the game and often has the attacker getting frustrated. That Walsall game mentioned above is a good example of that. He had a torrid time against Zeli Ismail of Walsall for the first 20 minutes or so. He eventually worked him out, drew a yellow card challenge out of him, and Ismail was eventually substituted after the referee showed him leniency over a second yellow card offence. I'm a big fan.
Whilst he's not in the same class as Brittain, it certainly does no harm having him as backup, we know he can do a job.
No offence to the lad but he we need a better back up. I reckon he will have a good career at league 1 or 2 level, hope he makes a full recovery from his injury.
Absolutely not. Tbf though I’ve seen a lot more of Williams close up and I just can’t see it. I hope he proves me wrong. If he starts 10 or more league games for us next season I’ll give £50 to charity.
I agree with thus post completely. Except for your last sentence. You do know a lot about football squire. You've been watching it a long time I presume.....
Similar to George Smith, honest trier who will have a decent career, can’t see it being at Oakwell though. good luck to him though, I’d be more than happy if he showed me I no nowt. Which I probably don’t!
I don't think he's a left wing back. I think he's a solid defensive left back. I don't think he'll suit this system as he gets outpaced and loves a tackle. In a 4-4-2 he's a good option.
