Lad I know, has a small business in a council owned unit with a couple of lads working for him, he moved in 2 years ago, is registered etc and on face value qualifies for the 10K grant. Because the previous tenant owes rent they have told him they won’t pay it as the unit has a debt. They have said he can appeal but it will likely to take months to process. He’s told them he will need to make his staff redundant etc and will put him out of business and there response was if you lay them off they can claim UC as Can he too. He contacted his local MP who has agreed to take it up because the policy is supposed to be to pay the money and then double check afterwards. His is not the first story I’ve heard of people being declined due to Council errors either. Hope JP stays strong and finds a way through.
Hey JP, get a second opinion. There will be things in place for you, you’ve just had bad advice. I know things seem bad at the moment, but things will get better. I’ve still to hear one of your sets. So when this is all over we’ll need a bbs booking. If you need any help, let me know. We’re all mates on here, even if we argue like cat and dog!
