I think Fletcher would have had a far better career if he's taken a step back like Toney did. Realistically he was never going to cut it at West Ham at that age, and would have been far better learning his trade in the Championship before making the step up to the top flight. He's probably earned a lot more than Toney has though, although I suspect that will change when Toney becomes a Premier League player over the summer.
Talking about ex strikers there’s rumours of Armstrong going to West Ham or Fulham for £25m. Mind boggling
Disbelief? Really? Over roughly the same period, Toney has scored 95 goals compared to 26 from Fletcher. Toney just shy of 1 in 2, Fletcher nearly 1 in 6. No comparison for me. By any standards, 26 goals in 5 seasons is a poor return for a striker. Landing a 5 year contract in the PL with that record, is I think the thing that's causing disbelief. At the time we had Fletcher I would agree he was a better player with better potential. But Toney has way surpassed him.
Who's his chuffing agent, got to be Paul Daniels or The Great Suprendo pulling that deal out of the hat ?!?
When the usual rumblings about potential transfers Toney was linked to us & received pelters on here , instead he went to Peterboro , I am just pointing out how people judge players , often wrongly , I believe there is still plenty of time for Fletcher to have his career turned round , he has already moved for big money in the past & if such as Watford are being linked with him then it is obvious that those in the game think the same , if he was to come back here I would be delighted
I still think Fletcher has all the attributes to be a very good striker. Can easily see him being the replacement for Deeney. Someone to link play and find space.
I started a couple of threads saying he would be a good player to get back - funny the replies are a lot warmer now he's signed for a premiership club lol
