Penalty. Weak back-pass and then lunged at Conor and stopped him. For me, the question is, was a foul committed? From where I was sitting, yes. Anywhere else on the pitch and it would have been given. Weak refereeing; bottled out on it, as he did with the red card he refused. That foul took place right in front of the fourth official and also the linesman (can't bring myself to call them Assistant Referees, because as in this case, they never assist, they only wave their flag to agree with the referee). Paid officials? Paf.
As others have said I reckon it would have been a free kick anywhere else on the pitch so I think it should have been a penalty.
Should really have been a red card as well. Last man deliberately stopping a player from getting to the ball in the penalty area running directly at goal.
First time I've seen it. Definitely looks a penalty. Buxton literally just sticks his arm/shoulder out to stop Hourihane from getting to the ball and sends him flying, which he could well have done before Bogdan. No surprise we didn't get anything though really, is it,
Clear cut penalty He altered his body shape to try and impede Hourihane...it can't be anything other than a penalty kick.
That's what I thought but considering the woeful standard of refereeing we have to endure at Oakwell I wasn't in the least bit surprised we got absolutely nothing.
To be fair the ref thought the full on assault on Scowen in the first half was worthy only of a mild talking to he was never going to send Buxton of for that.
I wasn't at the game, neither have I seen the replay. But a blatant penalty for me, nailed on a stone wall...
The rule is that it's a red card if you prevent a goalscoring opportunity, not if you're the last man. If Conor didn't have the ball under control then it would have been a booking. #TeamsLikeBarnsley
That isn't true. Of course it can be an obvious goalscoring opportunity without you having the ball. Imagine the scenario. Last minute, their keeper has gone up for a corner. You clear it and hit a long punt the length of the field for your striker to run on to. He hasn't got the ball but he's chasing it and there is nobody between him and goal. A defender is chasing him but can't make up the space so instead he lunges forward and grabs you round your waste. Obvious goalscoring opportunity. Red card. Never had the ball.
That's correct. I may have slightly misstated the incident with Hourihane. Had he not been blocked by their defender on Saturday, the keeper would have collected the ball regardless which is why it would have been a yellow card. Not that I thought it was a foul on Hourihane anyway. #TeamsLikeBarnsley
I don't think the keeper would have ever got the ball, it was a poor back pass that packed pace. That's why I think the defender deliberately blocked hourihane because he knew who would get the ball first.
To be honest I've not seen the incident back and am forming an opinion on how I remember it at the time. #TeamsLikeBarnsley
