My understanding is that the 500k from the player is earmarked for player wages for July. The appeal is to be funded by the new owner, assuming one comes in fast enough.
I don't believe that to be the case, but I could be wrong. It's difficult to find solid information. The administrator has triggered the appeal, but admits that it's unlikely to be successful. It all points to the administrators triggering the appeal to keep the option open for the new owners, to me. Again, I could be wrong.
I've been looking into this further, I believe the 12 points will remain what I believe they are appealing is the rest. 2 year transfer embargo 20 player squad The comments from the administrator says to me they know the deduction will remain in place the body language of Paul Cook and the comments from players suggests they are working towards starting in league 1 next season
Makes me wonder if the new owner is the old owner, the old, old owner maybe even the old, old, old owner?
Could well be, there may also have been a time frame for the appeal to be lodged which again if so then the administrator has acted in the best interests of the club at the time. There is also still a chance that they may withdraw the appeal depending on what the preferred bidder wants to do
That's how I understand it, yes. The appeal had to be lodged in a timeframe, so the administrators did so to keep the option open (no money spent yet, I believe).
They must have because they have got a top QC on the job building the case so someone must be paying for it
In that case I'm not sure. Everything i've seen points to the administrators not spending money and just keeping it 'ticking over' but i could be wrong. Maybe they're entitled to Legal Aid
I think BarnsleyReds and Kektyke’s reasoning makes sense. Given the size of their squad etc it makes more sense to appeal those elements than the 12 points deduction. And they’re just reserving their rights (I hope) in any event. Yesterday was the deadline for proof of funds wasn’t it? Not the appeal.
But surely, if they weren't appealing the deduction, that would be known and everyone would be able to get on with things knowing what division they're in?
Yesterday was the noon deadline for the preferred bidder to sign the paperwork to say the necessary funds were being held with his solicitor so the buyout could progress
That transfer embargo is perhaps the biggest issue given the administrators will sell players to keep funding the club and especially with no income through COVID last few months. Irrespective of the league their in. The thinking maybe to get a good start in L1 as the would struggle either way in the current predicament in the Champ
Not necessarily, I think they have to appeal the whole thing but realistically know that they can't appeal the 12 points as its set in stone as agreed by all clubs and in the rule book. As is the right to appeal, it's just that nobody has ever appealed a points deduction for going into admin
