Pity we did not have VAR against the Wendies both home & away , then we would have had 6 points out of them instead of 2

But we have ueffa happy to have a extra official in European games as best I can tell just having a good view. For me it's all in or all out, this half arsed attempt at using technology is not the answer

If only there was a straight line painted on the pitch about 18 yards from the goal to use as a guide line..

Even better the linesman is in perfect position to give the decision I assume he got it right. Didn’t watch the game so I don’t know exactly what happened but he is clearly on side

No reason when an offside flag goes up the ref notes it but if he has any doubts they continue with the phase of play. Only if a goal results within a given period of seconds after player being flagged offside would VAR be trigggered otherwise a goal kick or play continues. If a goal does result and VAR deems the player was NOT offside then the goals stands. That would actually speed up play with fewer stoppages for offside decisions. Obviously blatant offsides not requiring VAR would not be subject to this continuance of play - just one example. - those where a player is yards offside receiving a goal kick near the halfway line. Same rule applied to contentious fouls, handballs in the penalty area. play continues (unless it is violent conduct). VAR only triggered if goal results after alleged foul.

In summary attackers always given benefit of the doubt on the basis you can always cancel an unfair goal but not award one where incorectly preventing a gaol scoring opportunity through an incorrect decision.

Surely in a case like this where it’s clearly marginal the on field decision should stand anyway. In cricket they give half a ball tolerance where the on field decision stands and only overturn a clear error

In this case it would surely have been better to just go with the official even if a bit of his knee was offside. Though it doesn’t appear this is the case anyway

officials get it right on the pitch in the split second.....so now we need to go to an office so they can take minutes to get it wrong??
