A few thoughts. Both players carry some blame. Flavell is very inexperienced and I’d hope he learns from it. I suspect there’s some hesitancy given he’s approaching a senior player who has (incredibly) held the captains armband. De Gevigney has done his weak body roll numerous times and come off worse for it and in this case, as the senior player he has to take control of the situation. You’d hope he’d learn but he just doesn’t and he repeatedly costs us dear. It doesn’t matter if he was good for 88 minutes but in the remaining time gifts easy chances. We need solid. Not spectacular, not the offspring of Pinnock. Just stable and something we can build on.
Flavell would have got it had the experienced defender shielded the ball. Instead he randomly ran to the left and left a clear path for the striker
Surely though if a goalie comes out it's because he thinks he can get the ball regardless of where the defender is? If the defender is in a position to shield the ball then as had been pointed out by other posters he could clear the bsll. And they goalie should have stayed put in case he didn't make the clearance..
MDG is not a good defender, seems like a genuinely good pro and don't doubt he trys his best but just isn't of the quality we have had in the last few seasons, read the room, the goalie has been there for five minutes we're winning the match put it out take control you are the senior pro
Our defence has been shocking this season. Flavell has done well overall. His distribution is outstanding and he's made some decent saves. He's learning, but shows clear potential. MDG is one of many who have been too error prone. I'd put the blame largely with him, but it was a mix up between the two, which could have been avoided if he had cleared it.
MDG does definitely have an error in him, still gets my vote for Player of the season all that should and probably end up being DKD as there’s simply no one else
