She needs to go today, her position is untenable and the longer it takes the worse it looks. I don't see any way in which she survives beyond 10 days from here, and if they try and ride it out it will become a circus, the optics will be terrible and she'll end up going anyway. Sadly I think that's what's probably going to happen.

 

I think that she should resign.

But I'll add the caveat that I personally struggle to.understand complex tax issues, so if it's true that she was advised this was the best way to proceed in terms of setting up a trust after her divorce, I can believe she was oblivious to doing anything wrong. When you pay a tax advisor you have to trust their advice. Again that's assuming she's telling the truth.

 

Oh.... And I'm really looking forward to PMQ's Ange. Clean start and all that.

I don't understand how Labour could aim for lower public opinion right now but they really are pulling it out of the bag. Reform 2029 looks like a real prospect right now and that is just grim.

Tories have minimal standards and accountability, Reform have zero standards and accountability.

She's stupid and should pay the price for a very nominal breach. Though the assertions about the grace and favour home were reaching and pathetic, as was said.

Remember Cameron's panama papers revelations. Zahawi being fined £5m that the media hushed up. Johnson repeatedly ignoring standards guidance and then making the role empty. All way more serious, all hushed til politically advantageous.

Farage... Where does his money come from, how are his multiple homes funded? Why is one in his mistresses name? Who is paying all his travel to US? Why is it not being mentioned his failure to do his constituency work despite being paid by the taxpayer?

The right wing media won't look into it. Just like they seldom did when the tories were in office. They'd rather have it in their arsenal to ask for favours and do their bidding.

I hear the “there’s four years to go” rhetoric. But even the biggest Starmer supporter (there must be some) will know that as it stands, they’re practically gift wrapping the next election to the far right.

Tbf, she still only owns one home. It is common to have a trust for children who have disabilities because parents will usually die before the child and they want them to be taken care of if they cant live indepedently.. I've never had to pay stamp duty, so I'm not sure of the rules but it seems as though she paid some but not enough?

i guess this all depends on whether you believe she was complicit in deception or acted in good faith. Agreed with others points the communications on this (and everything) are just terrible
