    I would pronounce it "Shtendle". However, my wife (native German speaker) says it's open to interpretation, and it could possibly be pronounced "Stendle", without the SH sound, but "Shtendle" is far more likely. The only way to find out is to ask him.

    On a laptop ALT-225, on a phone press "s" and hold, then select ß from the list of weird characters that appears.
