We`ve gone back to our consistent defence that we are all accustomed to this season. I`ll praise the lads for the effort, but for all of the 90 mins we had no idea of how to break down a side that gave us no space.
can’t say I agree there. I was 100% confident that we would come straight back up. I’d say with this lot it’s 50/50. We lack any real defensive quality and after a relegation which will take Woodrow / mowatt and probably Chaplin out of the equation we will lack quality throughout. The last team was below par Championship team but an outstanding L1 this is a worse Championship side and only fair to middling L1 side. All imo of course.
Team that were relegated previously were not even league 1 standard in comparison to this set of young lads. Plus, they didn't bounce back most of the driftwood was shipped out.
mcburnie was pretty good... Moore / Bradshaw / Potts / pinnock / Davies / Lindsay will all be playing at a higher level than us next season. Sorry but can’t agree. None of our current defence or keeper is anywhere near the level of those we got relegated with.
This is so true. The 4-0 defeat could hurt us, but we weren't going to go through these 9 games undefeated. What matters is how we respond and how we set ourselves up for the Wigan game. Come out firing against Luton, with a positive display and three points, and we're still right in with a chance of staying up. I'm sure we'd have all taken three wins, one dra, and a defeat from the first five games so it's up to the players to deliver that. Today was frustrating though. But you'll get that with an inexperienced side. Struber was in the press during the week (I think) saying that we're not a squad that can get away with off days - we need to be at it every single time. We weren't today. Move on and fix it.
I agree with you. I believe a big influence last time was how inept Morais was. I think GS is a better manager than he was. I hope GS doesn't talk about his 'boys' in his post match interview though - they need to start playing like men rather than boys. We were out muscled and pretty much bullied all over the pitch today.
Yeah I agree. We signed lots of players in the summer. I think it’s fair to say not many have been outright success stories. Morais was given the golden ticket in McBurnie and couldn’t cash it in.
You’re right I would have taken those wins ,draw and a loss but I’d rather have lost to Blackburn than one of our rivals who we needed to keep with us points wise . It’s no use picking points up with mid table teams then lose the six pointers or must not lose games imo .
It isn't. But I think we've seen with results so far that they're all over the place in terms of what you'd expect, so maybe that's the bit of hope that I'm clinging to. Luton is all that matters now and the players should forget everything negative that happened today and come together to respond in the right way on Tuesday.
Spot on - we can't have a team do anything but play to their full potential every week. And even then we might have to find the other side on an off day.
Yeah I’ll probably be in a different mindset come Tuesday . I think it’s the manner of the defeat tbh , if we played ok and lost with the odd goal it would have been more palatable than seeing that our defenders are as clumsy as we were used to before lockdown . After being on a high after lockdown then to see the reality of why we are where we are is a sickener tbh .
I remember how despondent I was walking away from pride Park that day. Today, we made daft errors but 2nd half performance slightly better with no cutting edge. That team at Derby just gave up as soon as Derby scored.
But that was to a very good Derby side totally different . If that day had been at say Bolton then I could agree with you .
wats to be positive about we are going down. so are luton and probably wigan. one of worst squads in living memory and billionaire owners who shop at poundland. so **** em
Mowatt looked very nervous when on the ball very early on and this seemed to affect the rest of them especially when playing it out from the back. I expected better from him. Add to that the poor defensive marking and it all ends in tears.
I think it's probably owner if anything, rather than the plural. I also think that person's wealth has little to do with the wealth of Barnsley Football Club. We could be in Wigan's situation though ......... We probably will go down. But I'm still wanting us to fight until that very last moment.
Get what you are saying however, it doesn't matter how good your opponents are, giving up is never acceptable. Far worse than making daft errors IMO.
