Used to play against scawthorpe scorpions as a young un, played in orange and were a decent team in the late 80’s. We used to batter em mind!
My age group the scorps won the league every season. Good side, I went down to training at eleven as a keeper, didn’t get in. A couple of that side signed youth terms with pro clubs (one of them went to Bury, bizarrely). None of them made it. Only kid i played with that made it as a pro was Marcus Williams, he was three years younger and rang rings round us at 11 when we were 14. I lived in Bentley then, he’s from west end.
I’ve just tried googling but can’t find the team, I went to watch Doncaster v Burnley August 31st 1991 with a mate supporting Burnley, anyway up front for donny was billy whitehurst and a young lad who came from the scorpions who id marked out of the game in the under 16 cup final for mexborough a year earlier. Can’t remember his name was trying to find a team sheet! We were fantastic at mexborough for a couple of seasons, had a lad up front called Jonjo parlett, would have been a superstar but got killed Breaking up a fight outside a bar in Newcastle. I’d joined the navy by this time but made me wonder how much of a small margin it was in making it to the professional level Donny were in a right state at the time mind and if you had boots you got a game of footy!
as a kid 10/11 years old ( i'm 62 in October) we used to play international matches, football against the scotch est down by the magnet/top of Victoria rd and test cricket against the west endies which was a large group of afro carribean lads that lived in Bentley west end hench the "west endies". happy days
Been so impressed with Mowatt this season so far, has been top class in all the games I have seen this season. Him and Dougall are the best midfield duo in this league by far I am sure, both ooze quality on the ball but both can tackle too. He has a long way to go yet but showing signs of someone that could replace Conor eventually. He has the passing range and the shooting ability. If he just adds a few goals and assists to his game like Conor did for us he will be a huge player for us going forward. He is nowhere near the level of CH yet but he could hit that level based on what I have seen so far this season.
Been impressed with him, never understood the loan last year unless it was darn to temperament. Needs to work on his reight foot shooting cos looks scared to death to use it, like many lefties I may add.
What about when he runs his contract down then a bigger team comes in for him ,he won,t be here long if he carries on playing like he has been unfortunately.
