The McAtee rumour is just one started by a Bolton fan because he was dropped from their matchday squad yesterday. Literally just someone wondering 'if Barnsley would buy him back'.

 

He’s honestly one of those players that people won’t realise what we will lose until he’s gone.

Completely agree mate. Everyone's got their price, especially for a club like ours. I'd be very surprised if Luton were willing to meet that price but let's see. Assuming there's even a grain of truth in the rumour.

Exactly my point. I liked woodrow but thought he was poor for us in his last 18 months here.

 

There’s absolutely no chance we’d sign anyone of Cauley’s calibre (or Mads, Jordan or Jacob for that matter). It was a joke. A reference to their collection of ex Reds.

However, nobody has scored more goals for us this century than Woodrow, one of the best signings and strikers we’ve had in the modern era.

I’d be devastated if Phillo was sold. I love watching him. In that same bracket as Cauley in terms of great signings. Our best player (for me) and most notable absentee whenever he isn’t involved.

But cash is king. Interesting 24 hours ahead!

 

He was mostly played out of position, if I remember correctly. It was obvious what he was really good at - seeing him consistently being asked to drop deep was painful.

 

Woodrow has scored 3 goals in 75 league games since leaving us, we should be aiming for a bit better than that anyway

 

I get it was a joke.

But Woodrow, however good he was for us, it was an eon ago. Lads' gone.

 

We should be not be selling our best players to rivals for promotion from L1 unless they are prepared to pay stupid and I mean really stupid money for the players and we have a better replacement lined up not a punt. Just my opinion but for me £5 million for Phillips to Luton is nowhere near stupid enough they are still getting PL money and didn't spend much of the full seasons PL money they got. I could take selling players to Championship clubs but to L1 rivals unless the criteria above were met no thanks.

 

If you understood it was humour, why you arguing the toss?

 

With knobs on. Much as we are in need of another CB I’d rather the window shut now than risk losing any of our key players

 

I’d give Phillips some stick over last season, maybe not seeming arsed or the good old ‘he doesn’t do anything until he scores or assists’. This season is so different and he’s the player who really gets us ticking, he’s so intelligent with his play and his class with his right boot is at the top level in this league. To top it off, this year he has that hard work in him. Slap a contract down on table making him one of the top earners with a £5m release clause on his head.

 

You can hardly blame mads for wanting to play in the Premier league rather than league 1.

 

I would certainly milk their parachute payments if this is true. The £5 million straight would either get their hands off, or make them pay up. Otherwise, I would definitely agree with £3 million plus Andersen and Adebayo, giving us a right central defender and a central striker. I just checked Adebayo, as I hadn't seen him among the scorers recently and he had an ACL injury in April, which needed surgery, so I reckon he won't play again until the New Year.

 

The problem is unfortunately that even if we made him one of our top earners on something like £8k a week, if Luton wanted they could very comfortably double it. I agree that's something we should be doing, but it would need to be done preemptively, rather than when he's already being tapped up by someone who can offer more than we can.

Just to be clear I'm not saying any of this has happened, I'm talking purely theoretically.

 

I am not sure that Luton can afford it, the ground is sucking the money from them. We will find out by close of play tomorrow.
