I'm sure the FA won't be enforcing the restrictions on how many players can be swapped from the previous game in this year's Checkatrade Trophy.

Imo we have just about got a world class first team , no strength in depth at all if we can avoid changes we can give it a go . We could possibly carry one and just hope one of the fringes comes good

I didn't know Odejayi was playing. What a miss when through on goal.

A-A has not beaten the defender with a corner or free kick yet. Trippier clearly has no competition for that position

Before the game I was in the”win it and keep the momentum going” but with 8 changes there is no momentum as it’s a different team, and now with this poor performance, I reckon the worst thing now would be us to sneak a draw in the final 5 mins and top the group as we’ve learnt nothing, not kept any momentum, and then we’d still be in the toughest half of the draw.

That was shoite wasnt it, and it worries me if thats the best that we can count on as a back up plan. If our first team gets marked out, then Im worried as to what our possible plan B is!.

I hope Southgate's not done an Hecky here with all these changes. His first choice XI now have to switch back on for the Last 16 and we've seen plenty of teams unable to do that. Confidence was sky high and now we've let some doubts creep in. This game could be Southgate's Cardiff.

The winner of our match vs Columbia will play the winner of Sweden v Switzerland whereas if we'd have finished top and played Japan and got through then our next game would have been Brazil

Confidence sky high? I don't reckon so. Beating two poor teams was unlikely to delude many. Those two wins shouldn't have shifted anyone's expectations one iota.
That said we're certainly not as bad as some would have you believe.

The team's confidence was sky high after the first two games. How can you argue it wasn't.

I've no idea about the team's confidence but I'd hope they weren't getting over confident by beating Tunisia at the last gasp and putting six past a side as bad as Panama.
I'm not trying to run them down. Far from it. They're better than some like to suggest.

Doesn’t really apply though the first team has won 2 games the reserves lost one. Apart from Pickford (oh dear) Stones and Maguire who both did fine none of the rest played. They just had a weeks rest.
We may still lose to Columbia but if we do it’s not because our reserves aren’t too special.

Hmm. I don't know about that. The point was that Hecky disrupted the team's rhythm and momentum by making too many changes. Southgate seems to have done the same. It's been proved not to work time after time resting players for 'bigger' games.

It’s an interesting one, I reckon that if we now lose to Colombia then Southgate has to be sacked. He’ll have made his position untenable with the gamble he took against Belgium.

Also whilst some are saying the players will be full of confidence because they beat Panama impressively & also best Tunisia I’d also think there will be a lot of doubts in their minds, ‘are we up to it or did we drop lucky playing 2 weak sides?’.

A victory over even a Belgium 2nd team would’ve been far more impressive than beating Tunisia & Panama

It's all ifs and buts and what ifs.
Whatever Southgate had done he'd get slated if we don't beat Colombia.
It was a tough call to make. He did what he thought best. Like Farnham said I don't see any relevance at all to the defeat. It was our reserves against theirs and neither side was putting 100% in anyway.
I certainly don't think his position will be untenable. There were plenty who were gleefully predicting us being humiliated by Tunisia and Panama.

With the youth coming through winning youth tournaments, our squad players will soon be replaced by guys like Sessenghon and Foden. Losing to a strong Belgium team to a good goal, with our fringe players isn't going to affect the momentum of the guys who won the first two games now they will be back playing after a rest of over a week.

I hope you’re right but I just think that the players will have nagging doubts, the teams never beaten a good side & they’ve not been tested defensively. How do we react when under pressure? We don’t know because the first time we played a half decent team we put the reserves in.

On Southgate, I just think that if we lose to Colombia then most of the media & fans who’ve been supportive of Southgate making changes will suddenly changed their tune
