I'm not sure you accumulate anything really. Most owners put in without getting the same back. Yeah, you could chuck a bit of money at it and get promoted to the premier league with a decent war chest, but would spend the majority on trying to stay up there. Get relegated with another big wad, but you've got players on big wages and long contracts, and if you don't make a big attempt to come back up quickly, the fans lose interest. Football is for life, chucking everything at one season is ok in the short term, if it works, but for every peak there is a trough waiting around the corner. I'm all for us aiming higher, and paying a bit more in transfers and wages, but when your transfer record is £1.5 million, it's very unlikely were going to spend £10 million in one window, unless I misheard what was said at the press conference when these guys took over. Aside from that, I would feel embarrassed if we spent silly money. I don't like wigan and others for that reason. We are a good club with a decent fan base. Both have potential to grow, but not overnight. Time for some people to have some patience and let things happen.
I have just finished a long critique on the academy. It is on my computer, but if you are interested in being challenged, I am quite willing to post it on here, although I must be honest that was not my intention. I am not trying to win any arguments by the way, and I wrote it all down originally in order to think it through for myself, having been challenged to do so by our conversation the other day. As I say, I was not going to post it, and you might find it long and very dull.
