While dreamboys commentary on the statistics is inaccurate, and not a lot can be taken from these numbers, there have been many studies that indicate a person's weight does have a significant effect on their ability to recover from the virus. This isn't with a view to shaming people, it's educating people to what the risks are and who is most vulnerable.
I've been denied/ refused / cancelled my operations on both Carpul tunnel and knee replacement because I'm officially obese. I'm 5' 10" and weigh 15 1/2 stone . My shoulders must weigh 10 stone, my gret head must weigh 2 stone, my little legs are irrelevant. I look a bit like the rugby player but 20 years older . I don't think I'm a fatty but clearly I am .
BMI is misleading. Go to Boots and spend £1.50 on the scales. Get your body fat percentage instead. Anything above 25% is obese for men. 30% for ladies
Does it take into account weight of clothes? Because this can be a big factor that is often ignored and can make a difference. You tend to wear heavier clothes in winter than summer For example.
Maybe take your coat, boots, scarf, gloves and deerstalker off when you get weighed? And put your bag of shopping down.
What I wonder about is this, I am obese but I go to the gym a lot, my last blood pressure was 107/70 last reading, my performance index rating is on average 45(technogym) & anything over 40 is excellent & to cap it off, to be considered very active you must at least average 1000 moves a day, My current "moveology" is on average 3562. Am I still at risk?
I take everything off, cut my nails, remove my watch and wedding ring, shave, pee, s*** and breathe out. I'm still bloody overweight.
It shouldnt - it should be based on your weight when clothes free. a few of us used to do a weekly weigh in at the office I used to work at and we did notice quite a difference based on what you were wearing. we all started thinking carefully about what to wear on weigh in day
It still wouldn’t give a read of your true weight. Also, need to factor in time of day, for meals etc.
Not to the extent is going to make that much of a difference. Unless you are an artic explorer. . I do mine every fortnight and go off an average. Hardest bit is maintaining muscle mass while burning fat. Especially when I hate 'weight training' . Currently about 14 and a half stone 19% body fat. March I was 15 stone and about 17%. Lockdowns been a killer.
This is an element of my beef when Van Tam and Johnson come on the telly telling us exactly how much we need to be locked up. If you’re that concerned how about you lose some weight?
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8875931/Coronavirus-vaccine-weeks-NHS-workers.html Normality is getting closer but it will depend on if a big enough percentage of people will accept such a quick vaccine to help reach herd immunity.
