BFC As seen from the outside... BBC report....."You certainly would not have known what a perilous position the Tykes are in based on a fine first half display where they created more chances than the hosts. Compact, organised and brave in possession, Barnsley looked anything but a side struggling at the foot of the table. They had already threatened through the lively Chaplin whose fierce drive was blocked when they took the lead on 16 minutes when Cardiff turned over possession and Chaplin stroked home after Mike Steven-Bahre slipped him in." All is not lost …………...yet! January transfer window will determine whether we will achieve the 'great escape' or go down with a whimper.
I admire your optimism and hope your right. However i cant see it and if we improve on the points front i fear it will be too little too late. I think that game was a kick in the nuts for confidence when a point would have been a boost. I hope im wrong.
I believe there are two reasons why the situation is not quite as black as some people on here think. The first point we already know... 1 The overall midfield and attacking players, tactics, fitness levels and squad depth are good enough to be in the top half, or at the very least, mid table, Sort out the defence with a couple of Championship standard players and stop giving away the stupid goals and thing will improve, 2 And this is the 'biggie'!! Unlike when at the top of the table, teams around you keep winning because they are promotion contenders, a couple of losses can quickly knock you back and out of the promotion /play off places. Conversely, in the position we are in at the bottom, even if several points from 'safety' the teams nearest are also losing a lot of games. Stringing together a few wins and draws with a bit of a run quickly moves you several places up the table. We all know our problem, as it is glaringly obvious, but so is the answer. Our closest rivals are not so 'lucky'. I know it sounds daft, but they have expensive squads with experienced players and are still struggling to find the winning formula, whereas we have a quick fix if only the management are prepared to take the necessary action to rectify it.
