It might be nice if you could form your own opinion rather than repeating information from Wikipedia cut n' pastes and Sky Sports commentators.

You've repeatedly proven beyond all reasonable doubt on this forum that you know nothing about cricket. Go back to watching pre-pubescent footballers.

Ha ha while England were being **** at cricket from 1960's to early 80's one guy held them together. The greatest batsman that Yorkshire and England ever had. He will never be surpassed. The youngster from Lancashire and next big thing, Hameed, has said. I don't care for the fancy Dan flash players. I play like Boycott. I value my wicket, I don't want to get out.
    He's 19.

He's old so he's useless. And a lovely person.

Do you believe that yourself HT?

How old were you when Boycott was batting?

There were times when Boycott wasn't batting to keep anyone awake There were times when batting was a matter of surviving. Often Boycott did when others couldn't.

There was a time when Boycott struck Ian Chappell's brother for 4 to get his hundredth hundred.

Cricket is a game of craft and tradition and statistics.

Little of which you seem to understand.

You are one of those who see cricket through the recently introduced prism of bash with better bats.

Enjoy it, but don't try and lecture those who immerse in the true summer game.

Ian Chappell must be in his 70s though. Didn't he once get smacked by Botham in a bar in the 1970s?

    Not seen him mention Boycott.

Micheal Vaughan mentioned Hameed a few weeks ago.

They seem to want to take him and he could play in Bangladesh but he needs to score.

Compton and Ballance have seen what happens when you don't score. S/R can't be below 50.

A quote from Sky Commentator and arguably the finest fast bowler of that era, Michael Holding:

"A fast bowler's job in any game is to remove the opposing team's finest batsmen quickly and decisively. The aim is to reduce the morale in the lower order batsmen and plant an element of doubt in the entire teams' ability to compete against you at the same level. This is a supreme game of strategy and tactics with the object being to create the least amount of runs on the scoreboard.
It all sounds quite simple, but it is a magnificent game of wits, bluff and counter bluff. Playing against fast bowling is not only a mental game but a very physical one too. During my time of playing, there was little protection from the stinging pain of a ball bowled at over 90 miles per hour if you hadn't the techniques to play it. Some batsmen were easier prey than others but some were mentally tough and each side would have at least one batsman that was supremely difficult to remove.Geoffrey Boycott was in that category. His batting skills were consummate, mainly because he eliminated most of the risky stroke play always with a mind to frustrate the bowler. He made sure he stayed longer at the crease than most batsmen in world cricket did at that time, with his main aim being to carve out a solid innings whether he played for Yorkshire or England."

What's Alistair Cook's test strike rate Hemmsy? More importantly, what does Bumble think of his strike rate?

    Get out of your bubble.
Boycott was the best, Hameed wants to succeed him. Hitting 30 in 10 balls in test cricket is not as good as 117 in 285 balls.

Shurrup. Everyone knows that the scoop shot is the most important shot in the 5 day game, particularly on an overcast Thursday morning at Headingley. Bumble said so. Or was it Jack Wilshere? I forget.

sorry guys. I must have imagined things.

Compton never got dropped after the Headingley test when he got stuck. Then he never got dropped again not scoring.

Ballance was never dropped last summer for not scoring any runs despite facing ball after ball.

Why do you think they choose Hales. They wanted a run scorer. They wanted an English Warner / Sehwag.

I'll ask again. What's Alistair Cook's test strike rate?

Ask Faroukh Engineer. He'll tell you that Don Bradman is in the pavilion, Gower's admiring the Blazers of the Lord's members while Lamby is in the club shop at Old Trafford. All the while Cooke's S/R is going up and down like billy-Ho. Now, you tell me, what does that say about Ballance playing an agricultural shot in relation to Shane Warne's batting average? I couldn't begin to answer that if I'm honest.
