A positive cricket thread for a change.

Only rule/rules i apply is that they must have played test cricket in the last 40 years and the 1 to 11 is as closely based as possible to their batting positions.

    Here's my attempt

    1 Virender Sehwag
    2 Alistair Cook
    3 Alan Border
    4 Sachin Tendulkar
    5 Viv Richards
    6 Jacques Kallis
    7 Adam Gilchrist
    8 Shane Warne
    9 Curtley Ambrose
    10 Glen McGrath
    11 Jimmy Anderson

You ask this question at nearly 5pm on a Friday? Crikey.... it'll take me ages to decide on such an XI!!! ;-)

Initial thoughts, I think i'd have Sangakkara as wicketkeeper though. And as much as it pains me, probably Ponting over Border.

    Interesting.

    Smith
    Cook
    Kallis
    Tendulkar
    Lara
    S. Waugh (C)
    Sangakarra
    Warne
    Steyn
    Murali
    McGrath

I think that would be me. Steve Waugh would be captain - a real tough barsteward that would lead from the front, and take no shat from anyone. Graeme Smith his vice - the same applies to him. Great captain.

Sangakarra pips Gilchrist due to sheer weight of runs scored - maybe Gilchrist not playing means there's less explosiveness, but I'm not bothered when my keeper averages nearly 60.

Tendulkar picks himself, as does Kallis. Lara could easily have been Dravid, but Lara's x-factor gives him the nod.

The selection of Kallis allows two spinners - and there's none better than these two. McGrath is a shoe in, and I've picked Steyn before Anderson due to his record away from home being superior. He averaged 21, whereas Jimmy averages about 27 I think.

Cook was my other problem spot - I wanted a right hand opening batter, but I didn't really know who to pick. Gooch had incredible consistency, Sehwag can take a game away from you in an hour, but Cook was so consistent over the years.

Ponting, Viv also unlucky to miss out - but you can't pick them all. Kallis has comparable batting stats, but also has taken 300+ test wickets. One of the best ever.
