... but football is always there lurking in the background.

We flew out to New York straight after the Wednesday match last weekend. We are due back in Gatwick at 10am. It' going to be a push to get to Oakwell (on no sleep) but we'e going to try. After all the holiday was planned around the fixture list.

Anyway, as an aside, on Tuesday we got caught up in the drama of the terror attack. Fortunately not close enough to witness the tragic events but we were in Lower Manhattan and we're worried by the level of police activity. Only messages from home helped us work out how we could get out and what was our best route. It was pretty scary even though we weren'
    in immediate danger.
Anyway in the middle of it all was a text from Hicksy asking if we were safe. I replied we were, and "what' s the score?". Just second nature.

    Anyway, I don't
mean to be flippant about what happened, it was dreadful. It was scary, and rest in peace those poor people. Just that even in adversity BFC is still there.

I once tried going to the match after getting back from Florida. We'd had a bit of a nightmare in the airport at the other side on our way back, but got back to Leeds about half 11. I decided I was too tired to drive, so got the train down.

Worst mistake of my life; it was game 2 or 3 of the infamous poor run under Lee Johnson. When Fleetwood went 2-1 up with about 10 minutes left I said, 'right, this isn't worth it now' and went home. As luck would have it, the trains were delayed so I ended up getting the same train as I would have had I stayed until the end. I called a taxi as the train was getting into the station, then the train stopped just short of the station and by the time I got in, my taxi had just pulled away. I had to wait for another.

On the plus side, when I did finally crash at half 6, I slept until half 11 the following morning which was great.

    Ps. Glad you're all safe.
