Many years ago, I was walking on the road between the deer park towards Wigfield Farm. As it goes under the M1, there's a stream running parallel to the motorway. I noticed a kingfisher persistently dipping & diving into the water. I seemed to be there ages watching it, although I doubted there were any fish for it to feed on. It was stunningly beautiful.
Awesome Kingfishers. This is one of Gary Uttley's (Shenk1). A Damselfly laying her eggs. This photo was in the 2012 RSPB calendar..
Used to sit for ages outside the Millers looking for the kingfisher. Was lucky to see it once. Maybe the Marstons blurred My vision the other times.
There's plenty around Worsbrough res and all down the river if you know where to look, there's a nesting pair further down from Lewden crossing.
You're welcome , they are my favourite too Its just that they are a bugger to get a good picture of, last week it all just clicked ( literally!)
We were down Norfolk last week, it was weird normally I am happy to see one but saw half a dozen in the space of a couple of hours!
I might be wrong, but I thought it was Round Green Lane up to the junction with Hound Hill Lane, before becoming Haverlands Lane?
You can encourage them by strategically placing a perch (not the fish). Kings are suckers for a perch. ( not the fish)..
A fair few years ago I canoed down the length of the River Wye. First day, OMG a Kingfisher, stop the boat, spend ages watching it, the most alluring and beautiful thing I've ever seen. Day 3. Oh, another kingfisher, wearily carry on paddling.
