A couple of weeks ago I posted some stats from our previous worst seasons, several of which were from 1952/53: fewest number of wins in a season (5), most defeats in a season (29) although that was in a 42 game season rather than 46, lowest points (23) and lowest points per game (0.55) - points adjusted to 3pts for a win. Lowest goals scored in a season was in 1971/72 in which we scored just 32 goals. 23 points is also the lowest ever points total in the Championship: Rotherham United. I'm now tracking whether we avoid the ignominy of setting new record lows this season: here the latest graphs: Based on nothing other than blind faith, I think we can do enough to get more than 23 points but we need 26 points for the PPG line to be above 1952/53 and I think that's a stretch. And we need 14 more goals in the remaining 15 games to score one more than 71/72. That currently sees unlikely given we've scored 19 in 31 unless there's a change of approach. And finally, we need to avoid defeat in 7 of the remaining games to have fewer defeats than 52/53. Relegation is inevitable imo but ffs come on Reds, if nothing else scrap to avoid this being our worst season ever! N.B. Target lines obviously are end of season and not adjusted by games played.
Wow. It's going to be an exciting end to the season! Can't wait for the next instalment of "The race to find the crappiest season in BFC history"!
This is how far we've fallen. Statistical analysis is now more interesting than the actual football. Take a bow, owners. Take a chuffing bow.
