I saw a programme recently where the current England Women's Manager Phil Neville was involved in a discussion regarding the future of the women's game. He said, he could see the day where the skill level and the incoming finance could well enjoy parity with the men's Premier League. I've only watched a few England women's games and the highlights of the WSL games shown after Match of the Day 2 on a Sunday night, so I can't claim to be an expert, but at the moment, I'm watching the Women's FA Cup Final at Wembley between Everton and Manchester City. Absolutely no disrespect intended, but on this showing, if this is some of the cream of what's on offer, there is absolutely no possible chance that the Women's game will enjoy parity with its Male equivalent any time soon. Unusually, Manchester City's No 9 Kelly apparently played for Everton in an earlier round of the competition, but has received a special dispensation due to the pandemic, to represent City in today's game. However, she will only recieve a winners medal if Manchester City win. Just after half time, they lead 1-0.
One girl I know absolutely outshone all the lads when she played with them up to U12s. Dont think any of the lads will make it pro but hopefully she ll have a good career . Personally I think they should have smaller pitches and goals, it might seem better then. I see no reason why women cant be as good as the men skills wise, it's the power and pace they lack in comparison.
I'm enjoying it to be fair. The popularity of the women's game is growing as well although I fear lockdown might have scuppered that a bit. I'm enjoying it even more now I've found the option to turn Jonathan Pearce off.
Do they lack pace that much in reality? Thinking about the average speed of a Barnsley player there's no reason that a woman can't have the same pace. I'd fancy you to outrun a few of our former players
they, like us are still looking for one with a hairy arse. seriously I enjoyed the bits I saw, great skill levels, fitness and a desire to win. The OP would probably enjoy it far better if it wasn’t compared constantly to the men’s game.
With respect PR, I don't compare it to the men's game. It was an observation made by Phil Neville who said he could see the day when the women's game would enjoy parity with that of the men, both from a skill point of view and finance. I watched the series on BBC 3 on Britain's Youngest Manager re- Jack Sullivan of West Ham United Women. They received £25k as their reward for reaching the final against Man City. This year men's winners Arsenal received £3.6 million whist runners up Chelsea trousered £1.8 million. David Sullivan ( Jacks Dad) claimed that no one in the WSL made any profit.
Serious question... who puts the kettle on for them at half and full time? Or runs the bath for them?
I'm not trying to denigrate the Women's game. I actually enjoy watching it.To me parity means the state or condition of being equal. Whilst acknowledging personal choice and preference, in trying to add credibility to Phil Nevilles original claim, I ask myself, is that game at Wembley today, comparable to watching Everton and Man City play in a Premier Division fixture.? In my view no and there's a long way to go before anyone can lay that claim.
But they do on average lack pace and power compared to men. Women typically have lower muscle mass and are a different shape. Cards on the table, I'm a strong advocate of women's football and I'm involved with the women's game at a local level (coach U13s and manage Open Age). But Manchester City women, will have a team that is slower and less strong than Barnsley FC.
so you were comparing it then. because you compared it, then said you aren’t and then compared it again.
I had to PR to try to justify whether Phil Nevilles claim had any credibility. Incidentally he made the statement before he announced he would be quitting the role. Probably saying what his paymasters wanted to hear.
I'm replying to you saying that elite women players are as fast as Barnsley players. The scores in WFL suggest that the nets are not oversized.
I would say that the fastest women players are faster than the average Barnsley player but that's the fastest. On average they are of course going to be slower
