Wimbledon has been cancelled https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/tennis/52104196 As it takes place the first 2 weeks of July that doesnt sit well with finishing the footy season in May and June as is being suggested in some places
Not sure any sporting event will take place rest of year . Social distancing will go on quiet a while after lockdown is called off . Imo
I think you are probably right - I think we will see a peak and then drop in new cases probably by sometime in May and maybe some relaxations on the lockdown but hard to see large gatherings being allowed any time soon. Unless we introduce a stringent test and trace operation like done in South Korea we will just trigger a second wave unless we keep everyone fairly separate
At the end of the day our NHS staff are going to need to recharge their batteries. Junior drs are going in, working as long as they can before going home to sleep and come straight back in again. Rotas have gone out the window, .playing football games where they might be needed (Kieffer Moore) seems frivolous.
Nursing students in their 3rd year are being recruited to work as band 4s rather than completing their training. They are doing their last segment of training as unsupervised workers in wards.
Yesterday when it was first mooted that Wimbledon might be cancelled the BBC reporter's main comment was that it would be so sad that we might not see Fedora, Venus Wilson or Andy Murphy play again at Wimbledon. They were in bits. I was totally thankful. What a waste of two weeks of the English summer. I shall not miss them at all. My opinion.
Who knows maybe we will get to the stage where its next season that is scrapped and we play the remainder of this one in its place.
I reckon the timing would possibly work for this. Start pre-season training early in the new year (only fly in the ointment would be contracts / transfer window, I can imagine the PFA wanting to keep players in control and spoiling any simple solution)
