Congratulations to their title. A friend and i exchanged stories of the past year and he is a Wigan fan. he was devastated by the clubs predicament but that quickly became elation after meeting the new owner. The CEO and Owner would visit fans for a cuppa to understand things and share ideas. They invited fans to contribute i think 20 quid per month to a ‘fans loyalty membership’. Would help get things back up and running and the fans could decide where there funs would be spent ie First team, infrastructure, juniors etc They had a pro first team squad of 3 players as they cam back to prep for the season. They chose to build with experience and find cheap ‘short term’ players who would do a job alongside rookies and kids. Their fans are loving their football and their club right now. will we follow a similar path?
or the Middle East.. which is the home of their owner. how much did they spend on players this season?
According to this transfer wise not a great deal TBF. Would have thought some hefty wages in there though. https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/wigan-athletic/transfers/verein/1071
yes this is about right. They sold Kyle Joseph for 500k and brought in players for low fees and short term eg 1 year contracts to reduce risk. For example Shinnie and McClean. The clubs were happy to get the wages off the bill at Stoke and Derby. Also some good free transfers such as Wyke. However the wages will definitely be the real cost. I think then owner puts a few quid in but they also have the fan revenue stream beyond tickets. I dont think they get more than 10-11k average home games.
