Wigan have agreed a take over https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/56403096 with a Bahrain based consortium. If Newcastle weren't allowed the Saudis based on their human rights record, surely Bahrain should be in the same category? https://www.amnesty.org/en/countries/middle-east-and-north-africa/bahrain/ Surely the EFL will block it for the same reasons?
The Saudi group was blocked because it was headed up by the Crown Prince. It's a bit different if it's not the leaders of the country
It’s almost as if EFL had some morals and principles ? They’ll be chopping hands off in Wigan before months out.
hopefully it isn't a case of them or go under. that would be a bad decision to have to make. I've got little sympathy for their plight, but I don't want any team to go under.
Fair point, well made. I'd forgotten it was the Crown Prince himself involved. I did just google the new chairman, Abdulrahman Al-Jasmi, and find this stupendous story about his residence in London being taken over by ANAL squatters... apologies for the Daily Mail link but, it's comedy gold. They've already had their proof of funds checked and approved by the EFL. Just a formality now. Good luck to them, don't want to see clubs going bust because of irresponsible owners.
Most places I've looked (take that as only wikipedia) say that Chien Lee's nationality is American. Not that that's necessarily much better!
Nope. Huge impact on lots of people, who have fk all to do with how execs are allowed to mismanage football clubs
I think the difference with Newcastle is, Mike Ashley has no intention of selling. I genuinely think he just likes winding the geordies up.
