Post on X about yesterday being the anniversary of the PL promotion then remove it within minutes. 1 Because the were getting hammered with replies comparing then and now so decided to take it down 2 Somebody high up at the club ordered it taken down because they didn't like the comparisons being made between then and now. Do they want us to forget the past and what the club has achieved before they took control.
It's still on Instagram and whilst not all of the replies are kind, they're fairly tame, so I'd say 1 is fairly likely. Why the club posts anything on Twitter is beyond me. Whilst the current board should come under a lot of criticism for the absolute mess that this season and indeed the last few years has been, there's absolutely no evidence of them trying to erase the clubs history.
They should have been brave and left it up. Doesn't matter how shi.te we are now. We have every reason to be proud of that day and the club should celebrate it and suggest that we want to replicate it. Just a bad look. Looks cowardly.
I started going to the well in the late sixties , then Earnest Dennis had the balls and vision to bring Clarkie to us this was followed by his son backing Wilson and us getting to the prem . The players we have seen in red on the oakwell pitch , Watson , Muller ,Leese Ilic in goal , Macca Dezeew Larry May Paul Futcher , King Ronnie Aylott Parker Ashley Ward Hignett Paul Wilkinson Hendrie Fjortoff and possibly the most inspired signing of the lot Ian Evans to play along Mccarthy no one wanted him after kis badly broken leg but he was the best one legged player of his generation.Contrast with the owners top 4 squad of today !
I look at that list of players all who I saw at Oakwell over the years and then look at the shambles we've become and I get genuinely emotional. I kno I'm getting old but would love one last run in the Championship and even Prem before I can't get up the steps to the East Upper anymore...
Thing is the idiots in charge now wouldn't sign most, if any of the players in that list they'd rather sign nobodies from the French Sunday league or fake footballers from the joke American league what a shambles of a football club we have become.
If anyone genuinely believes the hierarchy wants fans to somehow forget the clubs history, they need their head checking. If I were in charge of media, I'd stay well away from twitter aswell. There's too many nobheads when it's going well, let alone when it's going *****.
Sorry mate but I keep repeating the same response to this comment about finance.. How is it then that we can afford one of the largest squads, by about 8 players above average size, one if the largest coaching groups and a CEO plus a Director of football. We waste money like Oakwell was built on a gold mine yet we allow this myth to be at the heart of everything we do as a club. Cleverer people than me look at our published accounts and post queries on here about how they stack up. A mate said recently many clubs owe millions but never talk about administration but we owe a fraction of that and Oakwell's going to be a sold for housing...If your skint you spend wisely..
People I talk to think the fear of the club folding completely is used to negate criticism about how the club is run. Didn’t say I agree or not but I have seen quite a bit of comment on here hinting at the same mindset. It's true to say some posters on here have responded to calls to buy players with remarks about spending money we dont have and busting the club altogether with debt we can't afford while other clubs at this level have more debt but appear to have less concern. I will repeat my opening line that we blow loads of cash we don't need to and unless we get a grip we will be in the £^#*. What did you make of the bulk of my post ?
The only assets we have as a club are the players for what they are worth. They can't borrow against the stadium, acres of training land and pitches along with some fixtures and fittings. They have to try recoup their losses with sales of players or try bring investment into the club to succeed. Easily said than done imo.
I started going at the same time 1967 to be fair most of the early 70’s were spent trying to walk round the ground without having to stop ,on the highest level possible, I think we managed 6 steps up once , it really wasn’t that great in part due to the back pass rule and keepers being able to pick it up We often spent more time watching games on the old Queens ground from the back of the Kop . It’s been a poor season but it just doesn’t compare in poorness to my early teens even with some of the players who were and remain my hero’s . Footballs changed out of all recognition to the Dennis family era , we’ve made some bad decisions managerially recently but that happened the past as well We live in hope UREDS
