Out of the two options in the poll, which trophy do you think is the more significant one to win? Can also throw in an opinion from your junior years if you think things have changed since then.
European Cup. How could it be otherwise? It's the most prestigious club competition in the world probably slightly ahead of the Libertadores.
Deffo the European Cup, but they should go back to the old format where only League Champions partake. Mind you, can't see that happening ever again, seeing money is the all important factor in football these days!!!
But to beat the cream of Europe you don’t want to be playing the champions of Moldova, Estonia and Iceland. It’s the name that needs changing, not the format of the competition. I’d much rather see the best 3 English teams take on the best 3 Spanish, German and Italian teams with a sprinkling of other good teams from around Europe who are able to give most teams in the competition a game.
In the absence of Papa John, I'm going for the European cup, for the reasons mentioned above. As a kid, though, the FA Cup was the one to lift, trumping the league title by a significant margin. I never really enjoyed televised games against European clubs in the 70s. There was something fundamentally different about how they played the sport, and I couldn't get excited about it.
I wouldn't. We never normally get to see the champions of Moldova or Iceland. You win your league, you're in the cup end of. May as well remodel the FA cup to go straight to the prem teams as well
Is there any point seeing them if Real Madrid are going to stick 10 goals past them though? It's really the same format as the World Cup. A competition dominated by European and South American teams. Why not automatically enter all nations into the World Cup and just have a massive knockout competition?
European Cup, as it was. To have potentially the 5th place team from some leagues playing in the "Champions League" devalues it greatly. Should be Champions only
Let the big guns get on with it, if that's what they want to do. As long as they resign from domestic football
Gone for the Premier League. To win that you have to be the best team over the course of the year, whereas cup competitions involve some luck of the draw. The Liverpool team that won the CL in 2005 were nowhere near good enough to win the league. The Chelsea team in 2012 even further off.
European Cup as you're classed as the best team in Europe not just your own country. It's much harder to win because you're facing big sides more regularly and all the extra travel involved.
The team from the best league usually wins the Champions League. I'd say La Liga is the strongest at the minute. The one enigma is Man City. They should have won it three times now but have failed.
I think it depends on the club really. For instance, I think (for obvious reasons) Man City would rather with the Champions league. Liverpool, on the other hand, 100% the Premier league, especially before they won it the year before. As a Barnsley fan - Premier League champions all day long. Knock out games are just luck of the draw and/or a dodgy red card/pen away from being knocked out or getting through.
