I thought they were massive, a sleeping giant and their magnificent fans deserve to see premier league football?
It’s a city with a population less than twice that of the town of barnsley - and has sold more than three times the number of season tickets. What’s your point? I’m no Sunderland fan and don’t want to get drawn into defending them but I’ve never heard any of their fans doing the massive talk like our neighbours from sheffield and Leeds. They’ve taken two back to back relegations and still shell out their hard earned in impressive numbers, and I don’t sense any preciousness or sense of entitlement. And as for not turning up, the stand behind one goal is sparse but as a percentage of the capacity I’d say they are more full then Oakwell will be today. But I’m not interested in a ‘better fans than them’ argument. I’m more interested in the fact that they don’t look particularly great for the favourites for the division. Hopefully we’ll be better.
