Been reading EFL statement just issued. I'm presuming Wycombes claim against County is about their relegation last season but I can't work out Boro's issue unless it relates to transfer monies owed? Looks bleak for the Rams either way......
Boro finished seventh the last time Derby made the playoffs I think. Boros chairman claims that by overspending and CHEATING , it cost them the opportunity to challenge in the playoffs and possibly return to the premier league
Ironic that Boro believe they missed out on a fortune but Conway claims being in the playoffs cost us a small fortune?
Season 2018/19 when a number of the dodgy financing deals and false accounting took place, Derby finished 6th, one point ahead of Boro in 7th thus denying Boro a play-off berth. Although as we know a play-off berth actually costs you money, doesn't it Mr Conway?
How do you quantify that though? Cost them a 1 in 4 chance of promotion so are they asking for 1/4 of the premier league bunce that was on offer? At least Wycombe can base their claim on facts not a hypothetical situation. Also why aren't Leeds after them as they lost to them in the semi final so could they argue financial loss as well? All a bit murky isnt it.....
Here’s another thought about this, Wycombe claim is based around the fact if Derby cheating had been dealt with quicker(as in last year) they would have stayed up. If that’s the case why are they not also chasing the EFL?
They are Both Boro and Wycombe are claiming losses as a result of Derby's cheating Wycombes is clear cut had Derby been correctly punished they Wycombe would have stayed up and as Derby only just stayed up its easy to argue without cheating they would have gone down anyway Boro's is a bit harder - I think they have a valid case they would have made the playoffs but that doesnt guarantee anything unless you win them. Fundamental problem is the EFL are too slow and weak to penalise those who break the rules
Plus Martyn Waghorn was about to sign for Boro.. but at the last minute signs for Derby with money they *didn't have*. Is that enough to sue over... ? Gibson thinks so.
Yeah I understand both cases against Derby, but like I say and you highlight about the EFL being slow, do Wycombe not have a case against the EFL as if they had acted swifter Wycombe would have stayed up.
This is the issue, if you’re going to have financial constraints in your rules, then there should be real time monitoring of it. Rugby have managed to get a system in place where any new signings are audited for salary cap reasons, before a players registration is transferred. The EFL should have something similar. Otherwise clubs will just continue to break ffp in the hope of getting promoted to avoid punishment.
No, he's said they can sue him instead of suing the club. Then he'll fight the claims instead of the club, and if he loses it'll be him that fails to pay - instead of the club. But it wasn't Mel Morris who finished above Wycombe and Middlesbro in the Championship table.
If Mel Morris wishes to use us as an example, Boro could finish up owing HIM. Didn’t Conway suggest us getting to the play offs, last season, lost us half a million?
That's what I meant, sorry. Used 'settle' meaning 'deal with' - poor choice of words.... Based on this;
