.. and once restrictions are eased I wonder if the club have considered having some kind of end of season thing at Oakwell, like an early open day. Chance for the players to do a lap of honour and for fans to show their appreciation. No idea how it would work other than that really, but just feels like as fans we haven’t ‘met’ half the players (and VI of course) and they all deserve something before next season starts.. Thoughts?
Be nice to have an open day again. Memories of the last one and them trying to drag Daniel away and him not having any of it until he'd signed all the kids' stuff. Does seem weird that we might well not have chance to see pivotal players and possibly manager in person after such a successful season ( no matter what happens between now and then)
Yep, it’d be a bit disappointing if we drop out of the play offs but in the cold light of day, even if we finish 10th it will have been a season way above expectations. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a squad put as much effort in as these lads so they deserve a proper show of support imho
I think we need to vastly improve the open day that's got noticeably worse over the years and turned in to something not really worth going to.
I think that’s a bit harsh, there’s only so much you can do. Personally I always look forward just to having a wander around at open day and being back at Oakwell after the summer break. Usually catch up with a few familiar faces too.
That's be a great idea. 2020 would have been my first chance to go to an open day, after working away for over 30 years
I don't know as I don't know what the club are able to do. They used to unveil a new kit but now they are released sooner (which is a good thing get them all out for Father's Day) so that's one less thing. Calling it a open day is pushing it. It's more like an open morning and it used to go on for longer.
I’ve often thought that a 60 minute friendly match between the current first team and u23 players versus some Barnsley old boys or legends on the pitch would be a highlight of the afternoon, say 30 minutes each way of a ‘fun’ match. Plenty of substitutions so the 1st team aren’t stretched in any fashion, and a bit of nostalgia forex players and older fans. Who wouldn’t mind seeing the likes of Ward, De Zeeuw, Hignett, Dyer, Hassell et al strutting their stuff on the Oakwell pitch again if they fancied it?
