Rolled back the years with this deal, the lady boys are loaded but good ol barnsley get offered 500k roll over and have their bellys tickled. One of the worst deals in my 21 years of watching Barnsley if true. Unfair on the fans and shows a severe lack of ambition. No doubt they will be excuses but a 6 figure sum is a joke.
Not a lot they can do now. He's got ten minutes left on his contract. Should have tied him down to a new contract months ago.
I would have said to wednesday 3 million or you will have some comptition in the summer wednesday need him now for their play off push. What happened to the we don't need to sell speil and winnall wanted to run his contract down apparently
Patrick Cryne gives the responsibility of running the club to someone else and look what happens. All of a sudden Its like the bad old days . Anyone with a sense of loyalty and connection with the fans would have told Wednesday to chuff off . It's not all about the money !
Yes there is. They could reject the bid as derisory, and keep him until the end of the season. If we really have let him go for six figures, in January, with no replacement, to Wednesday, it's utter madness. I backed the Club massively, by insisting there's no way they would even dream of doing this. Absolutely crackers. It would send out a terrible message to fans and could spark a complete domino effect, with Hourihane, Bree and Roberts all following suit. I don't blame Sam Winnall, given the numbers being thrown around, but the Club have a lot to answer for if this happens. Linton Brown will also need to come out and explain himself. I've not heard a peep from him since he took over from Ben, and we're told he's now running the show. I know it's the Star we're talking about here, but it seems consistent with what everyone else is saying. Radio Sheffield will have a field day.
If I was the manager I would also seriously consider a move should I be approached by a club willing to give me proper financial backing.
Problem is, you tell the player he can't go and stand in the way of him getting a 300% (or more?) pay rise. Where do you reckon his head will be for he rest of the season?
Gids now reporting deal done. That's that then. Huge **** up from the Club. Beyond belief, and totally undermines everything that's been said about not needing to sell. Players and even Hecky could now all follow suit. I'm beyond pi$$ed off right now..
Start LJ's first full season I was really disillusioned with BFC and was saying one more season for my Season ticket. Fed up of us being poor on field and us letting player go for **** all. Really thought we had left that behind us and learnt from our mistakes. This has soured a great season. Not the fact we have sold Winnall but the fee is pathetic. Even with his contract running out we still had the chance to get a decent fee given our league position and his record in the champ. Really feels like the Don is back
Me too. Fan of 50 years and I am absolutely fuming. Selling him for a daft fee, fair enough but this is a give away. Absolutely pathetic BFC and you have taken us back years. May as well give the other players away too, why stop at one? All I can do is wage a 1 man protest and stop putting cash into the club, so centenary, player etc are getting binned off. Seriously annoyed and there is no explanation that can turn it around. Tinpot club.
On one hand I can see why he would want to move to Wednesday Presumably loads more money and gets to stay local so doesn't have to uproot too much. On the other hand I think he is barmy, he seems a very notional type and when he's on he's on when he's not he 's not and during those times we've put up with lots of missed chances and various moodies and as ex Barnsley I can't see their lot having a lot of patience if and when he hits a bad patch., not to mention the personal abuse he is likely to get from many Barnsley fans if he does go there. If it is true though whoever is in charge of transfers at Barnsley wants fking letting him go if it is for a small fee, ( not to mention letting so many key players contracts run down at the same time) he would be far more valuable to us in the short time than the peanuts fee being bandied about. There wouldn't even be any long term detriment to the player if he kept hitting the net there would be clubs falling over themselves to sign him in the summer and plenty of time to consider.
Re: On one hand I can see why he would want to move to Wednesday How to go from hero to zero in one swoop. Club and player
