Both us and Luton have already won the prize. The aim this season was to win promotion and we've already done it.

The team that wins the title tonight will be celebrating, as will their fans. But so will the team and fans who don't.

It's not that I don't care about the title, that's the wrong word, I do care, I'd like to see us win it, I hope we do, but it sort of doesn't matter.

Luton and Barnsley are already winners and although it will be historically significant for the title winning club, it won't make any difference to the celebrations this weekend or to the signings we make this summer or our prospects next season.

We're playing a game for the history books. Tonight the players and officials and fans of both clubs will smile and laugh and get drunk. Win, lose, draw, first or second will make little or no difference.

I think it's a shame we weren't somewhere else today, or at home. We were promoted without playing and most of our fans can't be there today either because of the small allocation.

Agreed Fitzy, won promotion in Cardiff, won promotion at Wembley, won promotion mid-week.... on all those occasions town was a damp squib after.

Nothing like the chaotic scenes of April 1997.

Might have been nice if our last game had been at Sunderland.
They may have given us the whole ground.... in any case they'd have welcomed us with open arms, them canny marras !!!!

I remember us clinching promotion under Clarke and again with Hunter. Both were down at Well and brilliant occasions but nothing compared to 1997.
It’s a great pity that our last match is not at home today. That would have rounded the season off perfectly

Yep you’re right. But promotion to the prem again would run it very close :)

I was there on all three occasions, but I'm struggling to remember directors box scenes after the Rotherham or Newport game in 1981. Is this just a memory lapse on my part?

Agree it makes no difference, as regards promotion or our budget etc .
I think it will make a slight difference in celebrations though especially in town next Wednesday having the league one champions cup paraded in the open top bus as will the weather as far as that goes .
It might just make that one per cent of difference though as to media perception or even a signing or two .
One things for sure it’ll not dampen the adulation or enthusiasm of our fans but it might just turn it up a notch and it’s a good addition to a team talk go out and show them why we were champions (fir a few games anyway)

I know. I can remember 1979 and 1997 vividly, but not 1981 for some reason.
