Ahead of Remembrance Sunday - our local footballers who lost their lives in battle.
Two of them were in the Footballers' Battalion (17th Middlesex) - Joe Smith (Kilnhurst) and Allen Foster (Rawmarsh).

Interesting that thanks. (As a born Jumper) Larrett Roebuck apparently was the first professional footballer killed in the WW1. Never heard of that before tbh. And there is a road called Roebuck hill leading out of the village. (Wonder if it was named after him?.)
    Edit
Apparently not according to a local historian.
