A band that meant something. Started Nirvana, Pixies, Green Day, Blink 182, Foo Fighters and loads more, but had more gravitas. The first gay US punk band too. Saw them at Sheffield Leadmill. Saw Sugar twice after, but they weren;t the same.
Yeah, getting there. It's a battle, but a lot of folk in the same boat. If you met me 95% of the time I'm up there, the life & soul, it's the other 5% that is the issue. Been that way a long time, but lockdown & taking away my raison d'etra has made it harder to cope with the 5%.
I hear ya. Coping with that 5% is harder than folk might imagine. Good times cant be far away now pal, and hopefully with restrictions soon to be easing, might help push that 95 up a tad
I had a brain injury from football in my late 20's which causes this. I could take drugs and lose the 95% up, or carry on as I am. I have made the decision.
Opened for Sugar one time with Kusworth. We were both on Creation. I would argue though, the Replacements were the more influential of the Minneapolis two bands.
Thanks for bringing a great band back into my consciousness JP. I also saw them at the Leadmill and at Glastonbury around the time they released Warehouse. Made a lot of noise for a 3 piece...
Did you work with Nikki Sudden then? I like the Replacements too, another underrated band, along with Minutemen / Firehouse. Totally unique bands at the time from the other side of the pond.
A little bit. Usually a short notice guitar player for London gigs. Recorded a little bit with him, but not sure it was used or released. I didn’t like the incestuous line up of players on Nikki & Dave solo records & also 90s Jacobites. It was all starting to sound the same. It’s why I had different guys & girls on my solo stuff. When Nikki died in 2006, we did a tribute show in London & I stood in for Nikki in a Jacobites line up. Dave sang 5 of his & me 5 of Nikki’s. It was a great set, one of my favourite shows I ever did. There’s a dvd floating around somewhere. Which I’d love to see, even though it was my fat Elvis period. Mick Taylor played that night too. Bob was a lovely fella. A right Anglophile & proper nerd for the UK indie scene. It’s a shame Kusworth was too pissed to appreciate the love.
I feel like that after stroke mate. It’s crap having to make excuses & explain stuff all the time. I’d been stroking since 2009& didn’t know what was wrong with me til I was hospitalised with the last one 5 years ago. Be well, mate & don’t be afraid to talk.
i saw Bob Mould about 18 months ago, 12.30am in butlins minehead of all places, walked on, plugged in and then battered **** out of his guitar and amp for an hour. Hardly said a word between songs Utterly Utterly brilliant but the majority of the crowd didn’t get it. Sultans of Ping were on after!
