I was quite satisfied with the rule that if a defender deliberately plays the ball, a player who was previously in an offside position would not be penalised as the deliberate playing of the ball starts a new phase of play.

So with that in mind, given two separate Forest players played the ball after Isak’s cross before it deflected off Longstaff, how the frig is that deemed offside?

He was offside, after two Forest players play the ball deliberately and the ball then deflected off him? So what is the rule?

That is disallowed and yet Marcus Rashford apparently wasnt offside against City.

I’m honestly glad we play in the EFL as I’m confused to hell here and I’d have a bloody heart attack if we had this ***** to contend with.

It could be so simple to amend, yet they don't and when stupid decisions are made, they take a load of stick for it. This season I reckon we'd have benefitted quite a lot if we had VAR, but as you say, it's a right ball ache

Don’t be daft - if we had VAR, we’d be awarded a penalty by the ref and they’d then overturn it!

I cheered Isak's goal at the end. As a neutral. And despite my good friend working for Forest.

    Because they'd been robbed, Newcastle.

I'm not a fan of officials generally. The useless definitely outdo the competent.

The chap we have tomorrow, he has done one of our games this season. Away at Plymouth. Where he somehow failed to see the defender push Aitchison over inside the box.

Fella on Tuesday night. Sent off a player at Oakwell in both of his two previous visits.

I don't name them anymore, because they search their name on google and I'm damned sure they 'act up' based on it.

The offside rule is now completely stupid and VAR doesn't help with it. we should go back to the old offside rule, but only applied in the last third of the pitch. The reason it was changed was because of the "Arsenal" offside trap on the halfway line, applying offside in the last third only, would make it a very dangerous tactic.

The only way we'll score from a penalty this season is if the opposition taker blasts it, it hits the bar & flies into their net, over the keeper's head. That is a one in a million chance. About the same as someone arriving from Mars to ref our game and give us a penalty.

Surely that's got better odds than a million to one?!

It was largely a musical reference, but from memory, I never remember it happening in professional football.

I remember learning the offside rule as a youngster. My dad explained it on a table with 2pence coins as defenders and 10pence coins as attackers. It was simple and after a couple of grasps I understood it.

Imagine trying to teach a youngster the offside rule now. I haven’t a clue what is and what isn’t offside anymore.

I think it's because it lets them off the hook a little bit, like they don't have to make up their mind, if they get a call incorrect, they can just use VAR as an explanation/excuse

At least one person got it... not as obscure as most of my musical posts TBH...

A bit shorter than for us getting a penalty!

I think Jamie Carragher summed it up best on live commentary, to paraphrase… ‘I don’t actually know if that is offside or not anymore’.

About a million to one, I'd say.

It was cruel. The lads first league goal as well. Robbed of a winning goal. Seems to work so much better in Europe & international tournaments

It used to be such a simple game. Now, thanks to pillocks in blazers constantly farting about with the rules, nobody - not even the referees - can confidently state what the rules are supposed to be any more.
