I know it's probably been asked on here before but, what are people's opinions on it? I thought the tournament was initially a good idea in that the best play the best and the worst play the worst. I do fear that now sky sports have lost interest, the general feeling in this country will be that it's a waste of time. It's pretty poor that it's been picked up by premier sports or whatever it's called. There isn't even a highlight show on terrestrial TV.
It should be scrapped so players can have a decent length to rest up every other summer when we don't have a major tournament.
I thought it was a good idea at first, to try and add that competitive edge to what used to be pointless friendlies. But the interest seems to be dropping and I can understand why.
Almost no interest in it only watched half the England Germany game and none of the rest. May watch the 2nd half against Italy but it’s no more interesting than a friendly to me wouldn’t miss it if it wasn’t there
It's on Channel 4 isn't it? Free international football on terrestrial telly is good. Personally I think the four team groups are what lets it down. I'd get rid of the Euros qualifiers and make it a straight knockout competition, then have expanded leagues of 8-10 teams.
The future of the game is a worry with this format. Already we are hearing about fatigue, short Summer then back early cos of WC. Can’t see Organisations scrapping it so can see the only other option will be to reduce club games, which could result in smaller leagues, maybe even non relegation etc and even a Super League showing it’s face again.
Ive always wanted to see fewer club matches to be honest, as I think 24 teams in each EFL division is ridiculous. But the Nations league thing is a tough one, because like at the moment, its being played straight after a hectic club season and some players are not giving it 100%. K. De Bruyne said they are pointless and glorified friendlies, and hes right to be honest. Although it can't have helped that the Dutch hammered his Belgium team last week 1-4 lol.
I just think we play too many matches, 46 league games and then X amount of cup or play off matches also. And now we've got the Pop n Paint cup in the league format as well, instead of it being proper knockout all the way through.
It's a good idea in theory and more interesting than the pattern of friendlies of the decade or so prior. They definitely shouldn't be playing 4 games over the summer though, in a year when the season will start early to accommodate a daft World Cup.
So glad we won the paint trophy before the introduction of Premier league u23s squad (I remember once when, if i remember which club properly, Leicester u23s played, they had 36 year old defender playing...). Just another way to cater to the big clubs at the expense of smaller EFL clubs.
Yeah it was at least a proper knockout cup competition when we won it. Remember under Stendel when we went out in the knockout rounds on pens, against Man City's U23s. Had Phil Foden made his way into their first team at that time ?. Maybe they could make the Intl Nations thing a knockout (FA cup style) tournament, instead of the league format to begin with.
I don't have any interest in it, i don't understand the concept, i don't even have the will power to google it. I only knew we had scored against Germany when i came on the BBS presumably after it had finished to see Super Tyke slamming Kane.
The Europa Conference League of International football. I get most games over here, but this is spread across 4 stations which I don't. As such, I've watched nothing so far.
