Eight since 2015 not including caretaker ones eg Adam Murray. It's incredible when you look back over the last few years with few of them lasting even a year. Falling out with owners, proving a success and poached or just being not up to the job and bringing success being the reasons why. On that score Ashbaghi may not last til the summer.
My favourites being DStendel.. Just liked the enthusiasm he brought to the team and touch line V Ismael... Strong and determined character and this passed on to the team Paul Heckingbottom... Local guy and supporter wanted the best for the club and didn't want his best players sold Struber....seemed a genuine guy who brought in experience and brought about the great escape. As for the rest.....? As for Ashbaghi- jury out on that one at the moment but I'm not overly impressed at that moment.
I share your thoughts on the managers. A club like Barnsley is always going to struggle to keep a manager for long. A lack of success, i.e. Schopp & Morais & they are sacked. Any degree of success and they are poached, i.e. Ismael. Struber, Hecky.
Had they even bought the club at this time, because they wanted Struber before Stendel! If we're down I want to find a candidate in the Mark Robbins/Paul Warne/Gareth Ainsworth/Nathan Jones/ Grant Macann category that stays and is backed by the club. Somehow I donbt it will be Ashbagi but we'll see.
None of those names fill me with any kind of joy and I couldn't see any of them working effectively under our current supreme leaders.
Heckingbottom , Struber & Ishmael all left of their own choosing so the picture is slightly distorted but it seems to be a growing trend in the EFL , there seems to be no patience any more & fans now demand change, possibly because of social media where fans inflict pressure on clubs & will not tolerate poor results . It is obvious that struggling clubs bow to pressure from the fans, I think our neighbours " The Massive " had four different occupants of their hot seat during last years relegation season , which is just an example .
Unfortunately 18 full time Managers in 21 years shows it’s not just an issue with these owners. edit: in that time Simon Davey was in charge nearly 3 times longer than any one else.
Coventry have played some great football and gone from league 2 to staying in the Championship with ease last season, and then pushing for play offs this. Luton haven't been troubled staying at this level. I think you're right that our current owners wouldn't want them though, they know too much about football!
I hate it. Managers disappear faster than you can shout "Iley out!" Pointless getting attached to any of them.
I haven't been attached to any managers/head coaches. They're all w@nkers when we lose and heroes when we win. I used to have favourite players but since about 2000. I've come to realise that they're all in it for the money. Come to think of it why would you chose Barnsley F.C? Shows how naïve I used to be regarding the world of mercenary coaches and players.
I don't get attached to any manager now. Heckingbottom knocked that out of me. If they're good, I accept they will probably leave at the first chance. If they're not, I expect them to be replaced.
I get that it is a more ruthless game than the working mans game of years one by we all pine for, but roughly (including caretakers): 25 managers (head coaches) - 1898 - 2000 (Fairclough to Bassett) 25 - 2000 to 2022 (Winstanley to Ashbagi) So 25 in 102 years. 25 in 22 years. The flaw is as others have alluded too. Recent years, poor overall quality - gone. The odd success - gone on to 'better' things. Or not able to work with our ownership - past or present. We're not the only club in this boat, like.
Since the end of Danny Wilsons first spell at the end of the Prem season our turnover of managers has been terrible.
