Can’t see it asked yet on here or Twitter, but does anyone know who today’s trialists were?

    Cheers

Wouldn’t be shocked if we see Williams move to another club in the last few days of this window. Hope I’m wrong like, he’s been arguably our most consistent player this season but with the club bringing in a couple of right backs it looks like they’re planning for him leaving and replacing him.

    I agree Indie…

i found it interesting (although I may be over reading it here), that non of the players who’s contracts were extended (using the clubs option), gave a statement or quote…

i wondered if the club had done it to try and hang on to them, as they are key, but also to ensure that we can ask for more £££ for any of them in this window?!?!…

The next few days will tell i guess…

In my opinion we can’t let Williams leave in this window if were serious about making the playoffs but that doesn’t mean he won’t.

I don't think Williams will be leaving this window (flw!) - he's been nursing an injury for a while so no surprise he wasn't there today. Same with Walton who was injured last week. Kitching and Bobby Thomas were also not playing today and they certainly aren't going anywhere.

We've brought in Cotter and have Wellens on trial. We don't need three RBs. Think with that and Jordan being nowhere to be seen today, he might just be off.

Judging by the absentees today Williams J Collins B Kitching L Benson J Thomas L and Aitchison J are all off before Jan 31.

Which will not be the case.

Some of the above may be already injured. If they aren't, they probably would have been today. Or in Kitching's case, he would have injured someone.

The standard of football on display was pretty abysmal btw.

Andersen and Norwood (not usually my cup of tea) stood out massively as having talent.

It will be a Herculean achievement on the part of Duff M to get a play off place out of what was on display today.

The lad Hamer from burton who we’ve allegedly bid for can also play rwb so it’s understandable that fans are fearing the worse.

Surely you are not judging an in house game as to whether we have a chance of play offs?.....it was a glorified training session at best

If we're playing the numbers game bear in mind Williams' versatility and the fact that we've definitely lost Edwards, Moon and McCarthy and don't fully know where Cundy is. We've brought in Thomas and Cotter, so actually we're still down on defender numbers from our original squad.

And, whilst I was impressed with Cotter and thought he showed well he is only fit enough at the moment to play half a game in a 35 minutes each way friendly!

From an observation as to skill on display then yes I am. There were countless examples of defenders ineptly giving the ball away directly to the other side in highly dangerous situations.

Trouble was that the attackers then couldn't make hay.

All in all therefore hardly a display filling the spectator with confidence for the next proper match. Glorified it wasn't.

Perhaps I was looking too closely for evidence of talent.

We do need a defender in, but I’d like to see us bring in an out and out centre back, rather than somebody that plays full back and wider cb in a back 3. We seem to be bringing in a lot of players that can play RCB/RWB, but still precious little cover for Andersen and Kitching without moving somebody out of position

I'm not sure we will though, although I do agree with you. Certainly if it's permanent because I don't think we'll want them on the books when the injured players return. Another loan would be my guess.

They weren't contract extensions as such, in the sense that the club probably didn't do a sit down with them to discuss new terms. They were extra years which were already written into the contract, that the club could trigger at any time. As all 3 are first team regulars, they've decided to do it now. It was always just a formality.

Charlie Wellens is still young and has a handful of senior apps under his belt and couldn't lock down a place in a non league side week in week out. Surely, if we are going to sign him he will be initially for the youth team for now.

Don't forget we have just sold Hondermarck and loaned out that Hassan-Smith who were both wing backs for the youth team.
